Seven Amazing Bands & Artists You've Probably Never Heard Of
Steve Moakler

While I listen to a wide range of music, I definitely enjoy the alt rock/indie genre quite a lot. Many of the bands and artists are singer/songwriters who showcase a variety instrumental skill and quality lyrical content. So I put together a list of a few of my favorites.

1. Judah and the Lion

You better keep your eye on these guys! Their latest album, Folk Hop N Roll, is unique and catchy as all get out. They remind me a lot of Twenty One Pilots because they 1) put on a great show 2) bend genre stereotypes and 3) are really cool, sincere dudes. Highly recommend.

2. Steve Moakler

This guy has gone unnoticed far too long, y'all. He's one of my all-time favorite singer/songwriters and has a heart of pure gold. He co-wrote "Riser" for Dierks Bentley and has worked alongside many other household country names... hopefully he will be one soon! He deserves it.

3. Green River Ordinance

I could talk about Green River Ordinance for days, but the best way I can describe their sound is eating pancakes on Saturday. So full, rich, and harmonious. If you like bands like The Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons, you'll probably dig Green River Ordinance.

4. Mike Mains and The Branches

These guys are absolutely fantastic. They're a little outside-the-box, but nothing insanely crazy. They talk about real life stuff and put it to funky melodies. If you like Tyler Joseph's stage presence, you'll adore Mikey Mains.

5. Phangs

You like Simple Minds and Tears For Fears? Give a listen to Phangs latest single, "Cul De Sac." It's reminiscent of 80s synth pop while putting a fresh new spin on a familiar sound. Plus, Jake Germany (the guy behind the name), is really cool. I've had the privilege of meeting him a couple times, and he is always a

6. Castro

Remember Jason Castro from American Idol? Dreads, uke, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? Well now he's in a band with his siblings and they are phenomenal. Every track on their EP "Diamond Dreams" will leave your heart soaring and your lips singing, I swear!

7. Colony House

These guys know what's up. They know how to be super chill and how to rock out, too. With lyrics about transitioning to adulthood, trusting in God, and continually growing, they never cease to catch my ears and calm my heart.

So there you have it! Seven bands and artists that you should probably be listening to. Don't just take my word for it... grab your headphones and take a listen! Your ears will thank you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
