As a person who wants to go work at Cartoonnetwork or Disney one day, I have a love for the animation genre. Cartoons have always appealed to me growing up, their bright flashing colors and fluid animation created a world of wonder and intrigue for me then an now. Over the years, I have compiled a list of some of my favorites. If you are looking for a new show to watch, I highly recommend these for varying different reason.
1. Wander Over Yonder
Wander Over Yonder is about the adventures of Wander and Sylvia, two aliens who love to travel the galaxy to discover the beauty of space and try to find people to help along the way. On their trip, they consistently thwart the plans of Lord Hater, an evil villain that is trying to take over the galaxy with his henchman Peepers. This show is created by the same man who made Powerpuff Girls, Craig McCracken, so you know that you will be in good hands with this one. With a colorful cast and wonderful animation, you will find yourself laughing along with the adventures of this helpful "wandering weirdo".
2. Any Steven Spielberg Cartoon
If I put each one of these shows on my list, this list would be way too long! All of these shows are absolutely fantastic! From the wacky adventures of the Animaniacs to the hilarious plots of world domination of Pinky and the Brain, you are guaranteed to be laughing by the end. If you are looking for shows that will make you laugh no matter your age, then definitely check out any of the cartoons created by the talented Steven Spielberg.
3. Dan Vs.
This one will always hold a special place in my heart! This show follows Dan, a man who hates pretty much everything, on his quest to take revenge on anything and everything that crosses his path. From ninjas and George Washington to New Mexico and the DMV, Dan's list of revenge has no limits. This show is more focused on humor than developing a consistent and chaptered story like other shows on this list, but the writing and jokes never fail to make me chuckle. I promise that you will enjoy the wonderful writing in this show!
4. Gravity Falls
I couldn't make a list without including this show! I could talk on forever on how much I love this show. Gravity Falls follows the story of two twins who are sent to live with their Great Uncle Stan or "Grunkle Stan" for short. While they stay with him over the summer, they begin to discover that Gravity Falls is a place of supernatural creatures and events and begin to investigate. With hilarious jokes and wonderful writing mixed beautiful arty styles and amazing animation, you will not be disappointed when you step into this world of mystery.
5. Steven Universe
One of my all time favorite shows, Steven Universe has a lot to offer! This show follows the story of Steven Universe, half human and half gem, who lives with the defenders of Earth, the Crystal Gems. He tries to find his place in the world while mastering his own powers and taking on any obstacle in his path. This show has so many wonderful elements to it that make it absolutely stunning. Wonderful humor, well written characters, beautiful animation, and a fantastic art style make up one of the best shows on TV at the moment. I can promise you that you will adore this show as you continue to watch it.
6. Invader Zim
Invader Zim will always hold a special spot in my heart. Growing up, I adored this show and I still do today. This cartoon follows the alien Zim and his robot GIR as he tries to thwart his nemesis, a boy named Dib, and take over the world. This show is very interesting when it comes to the choices they made when creating it. The art style and humor are borderline dark and some episodes have creepy concepts. However, this show took many risks and has an amazing sense of humor. It is easily one of my favorite Nick shows of all time and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good show to watch.
7. Over the Garden Wall
One of the shorter shows on this list, Over the Garden Wall is an interesting little mini series. The show follows the adventures of Wirt and his younger brother Greg as they try to escape the mysterious place called the Unknown. They run into mysterious and threatening creatures and characters along their journey home and learn different lessons along the way. This show is an interesting piece of art. From a wonderful art style and animation to a beautiful soundtrack, you will definitely enjoy this mysterious and wonderful fall centered short series.
8. The Powerpuff Girls
Ah who could forget this staple of cartoon entertainment? The Powerpuff Girls was a show a lot of us grew up with and it still holds a warm place in our hearts. Following the adventures of three super-powered girls made in Professor Utonium's laboratory, this show has humor and action in spades. My family enjoyed watching this show with me when I was younger and I still enjoy this show to this day. Definitely check it out if you are looking for hilarious and amazing action.
9. Rick and Morty
This show is different from this others on this list because it has more adult humor than any of the rest due to the fact it was created for Adult Swim. This show, however, is definitely worthy of being listed. Rick and Morty follows the misadventures of Rick, a dimension hopping reckless scientist, and his anxious grandson Morty as they travel through dimensions and come across weird and sometimes surreal problems. This show has an amazing sense of humor and some wonderful art styles. The colors in this show often are absolutely stunning! I definitely would recommend this show to anyone looking for a good time and lots of humor.
10. Ed, Edd, n Eddy
Ah, one of the staples of my childhood. Ed, Edd n Eddy is one of those shows that still holds up as you get older. This show follows the adventures of three boys who are trying to scam the other neighborhood kids with crazy schemes. I have a special place in my heart for this show. The humor never fails to make me life and these characters are icons to a lot of kids my age. If you are looking to laugh and enjoy bright and colorful characters play off of each other, you have come to the right place.
