Embarrassment is just horrible, the sweat the strange feeling of just wrongness, and sometimes laughter that is defiantly not with you! Everyone has those embarrassing moments, or at least I hope so! I rather not am the only one. So if any of you feel the same way I thought I should share at least one embarrassing moment! I hope you find it as funny as my friends do.
The most recent embarrassing moment I have had, was while I was walking to class. It was late in the afternoon; the walk is fairly long for the day, about fifth-teen minutes between my dorm room and my classroom. I have not spoken to my mother for a while, so I call her to keep busy. I am not the most in shape person, so long flights of stairs still take the breath away for a few seconds- and there are a lot of stairs towards my classroom. Now as I finally get past the third set of stairs, I slow down to catch my breath.
Due to this little interlude I end up walking up to a group of students huddled loosely around a small dog. It is not unusual for a dog to attract a lot of attention and I would usually ignore the dog in favor of walking, but I stopped to rest and enjoy the dog. It was then I started to hear that people kept asking who the owner was, I looked around. Nobody was claiming the dog, so small that he had to jump out of the way to keep from being smashed into the sidewalk. He has no collar, but is well groomed, and is not following anyone either.
You see I have a small dog of my own, and suddenly a sense of motherly care sweeps though me and I am crouched down to the dog. I asked a few girls around me if they knew the dog’s owner or where he had come from. So I let the dog smell me and lick my hand before picking him up. I was so happy that he trusted me so easily, and did not seem to have a problem with me just hanging out with him. It was a bit awkward picking him up, because I was one handed- I was still on the phone with my mother at this point. It was easy enough to have him in my arms in lest that five seconds.
Now this dog seemed to be in heaven after I picked him up. It was just a second before he completely relaxed into my side hold, looking up at me and wagging his tale. I thought I was going to die from cuteness. As I say this I can feel my own dog stare at me, daring me to call the dog (dare I say it?) cuter than him. I most definably cannot agree with that, but to a dog starved student like me? That dog was the best thing that could have happened at that point. I was more than happy to skip class to find that owner, and if they could not be found I was going to take a trip downtown for dog food and toys for this precious little puppy.
Of course if I was not still on the phone with my mother I might have noticed the one girl pointing at the owner of said dog. It turns out that the owner of this cute fur bundle thought her dog was able to follow her though the crowd home, but the dog got lost in the sea of legs and stopped just right where I would see him.
But did she have to be right behind me the whole time?
This owner must have thought I was just a crazy stoner college kid, because here I am just picking up a strange dog with the owner just a couple of meters from her. I was mortified, and the little giggle from the owner was enough for me to have sent the dog down and walked away.
I do not think I will ever be able to forgive myself for just picking up that dog like he belonged to me. Thank goodness I did not just take him though!
