A Thank You Letter To My Parents
Idealist Careers

My parents are constantly bragging on me, in every aspect of my life. They are so proud of who I am and honestly, they are proud of raising me. They see my love for the world and want to show the side of me that they have seen my whole life to everyone they meet. My dad still keeps pictures of me in his wallet (he's not too tech savvy). So this is me, trying to attempt to show my parents that I am just as proud of them as they are me.

Mom and Dad,

Since the day that I was born, I have consumed your life. Every decision you have made and path you have decided to take has been for me and in my best interest. You selflessly gave up so much so that you could make my life the best you could. I know that on some Saturday nights you would have much rather been at a movie together or even having dinner with friends, but you chose to stay home and play with me. I know that watching countless dance recitals wasn't your idea of fun, but you were always front row ready to record my dance. You have never, never made me feel like I couldn't do something. You taught me that if I wanted to that, I could change the world. You've always fueled my passions, no matter how crazy they were. I can not remember a time in my childhood when I felt that I couldn't take on the world. Though growing up I realized that I couldn't do everything, it was you who showed me that I should never be afraid to follow my dreams -- no matter where they took me.

As I have gotten older, I realized that you were accomplishing things as I was, too. You built your careers and grew as people, yet you never asked for recognition because you only cared about me. I realize now how hard it must have been, to have a family while trying to build a career also. You have both provided for me in ways that I will never be able to thank you enough for, so this is me attempting to do so.

love,

your baby

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
