Dear Mom,
Thank you for never trying to show off or be the most liked Mom, but for being the Mother who instilled a hard work ethic, compassion, love, and values in me. You weren't the one who was always trying to fit in and be liked by her daughter just so she would like you and because of that I have a role model. I remember you always saying: "I'm not here to be your friend, I am here to be your Mother". At the time, I probably hated you for saying that and envied the girls who never got grounded. Though, if it was never for you teaching my right verse wrong I wouldn't be who I am today.
Now that I am older I am able to realize why you always treated me the way you did. I used to think you loved me less than other Mothers loved their daughters and I thought I had strict parents who never wanted me to have fun or to be myself (thoughts of a typical teenage girl). It isn't until now I realized how even though at sometimes I might not like the decision you make, I have love and respect for you always.
Now, I wonder who girls will ever learn from if their Mom does everything to please them, never looking to teach them a lesson. You taught me many important rules to life, but most importantly you taught me how to act like a lady and that no matter what I should always stay true to who I am. You taught me how no matter the circumstance, to always do what is right. Lastly, you taught me to always stand for what I believe in and fight for my beliefs. The lessons I learned from you aren't ones I could learn from Dad or any of my siblings.
It is because of you, one day, when I am a Mother I will know; even if your child is upset with you or something you did, it is SO important to stick to your values and teach them a lesson because deep down they will always love you unconditionally.
Thank you for never trying to show off or be the most liked Mom because even though you never tried to be my friend; you are my best friend. A best friend is, according to Urban Dictionary, A very special person in your life. The first person you think about when you make plans. The first person you go to when you need someone to talk to. You will phone them up just to talk about nothing, or the most important things in your life. When you’re sad they will try their hardest to cheer you up. They give the best hugs in the world! They are the shoulder to cry on, because you know that they truly care about you. In most cases they would take a bullet for you, because it would be too painful to watch you get hurt. That is, exactly, who you are to me and I would not want it any other way. With you not ever trying to be the cool mom, you turned out to be the coolest.
Thank you most importantly for being there for me no matter what. I have never encountered a more hard-working, loving, or caring women in my life. Sometimes it's hard to see how much your children love and appreciate you; that's only because we love and appreciate you more than we could ever put into words.
"The most important thing she'd learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a great one" - Jill Churchill
Love Always,
Your Daughter
