I wasn't able to see Mockingjay Part 2 the night it premiered, which was a big bummer for me. I had been dying to see the final chapter of the Hunger Games since Mockingjay Part 1 credits rolled on the screen. My boyfriend had forced me into watching all the previous movies, but this time I bought the movie tickets and was psyched to sit down at the theater.
So we grabbed our snacks and shoved them in my purse- two Wawa hoagies and whatever candy I could find. We found our seats and reclined our chairs and prepared ourselves for the intensity that always was found in any Hunger Games movie.
Two hours and 17 minutes later and boy was I disappointed. My boyfriend and I sat in our movie theater chairs and stared, dumbfounded as the credits rolled across the screen and we sat surrounded by our Wawa hoagie wrappers. Every movie had left us wanting more, but Mockingjay Part 2, had left us wanting to go back and wreak some more havoc in the capital.
As we sat in the theater and the whole ride back home, we brainstormed alternate endings to Mockingjay Part 2 that we felt to be more appropriate than the "happily ever after" that Peeta and Katniss finally found.
Alternate Ending 1:
Peeta seemed to be magically be cured from the brainwashing that the capital had done to him. We felt that even though the capital had been taken down, Peeta would still be trying (due to his brainwashing) to kill Katniss. When Katniss and Peeta started getting cozy at the end, we felt their should've been a fight to the death, where Katniss ultimately ends up falling victim to Peeta. However, then Haymitch arrives just as Peeta is killing Katniss and tries to save Katniss by killing Peeta, but is too late. Both the victors of the 74th hunger games then lie on the floor, ending up to have been each others downfall.
Alternate Ending 2:
One part in the movie that stuck out to me is when Katniss told Peeta that she would see him in another world- meaning after the capital is taken down. During the whole capital take over, after Prim was killed, Katniss didn't pass out from the bomb and she was able to storm the capital. She unfortunately gets captured by the people in the capital and is held prisoner. Being locked in a room, helpless to the people still trying to fight the capital, and able to think about her sister's death she is overwhelmed with emotions and takes the Nightlock Pill while her last words are "I'll see you in another world." And amidst her collapsing to the floor is a montage of the capital being defeated.
There was much thought put into these alternate endings and though we are disappointed with the stereotypical "happily ever after" ending that Hollywood left us with, we can see flaws in our alternate endings as well.
Either way, the fact that the Hunger Games is officially over sucks: real or not real?
