Dear Santa Claus,

There seems to be quite the misunderstanding in holiday seasons to the south of the North Pole.The twinkling lights, the spectacular window displays of red and green, and the aroma of freshly cut Christmas trees lingering in the air are all leading indicators that the most anticipated time of the year is approaching. Storefronts, billboards, and broadcasts, both on TV and in print, all mirror the spirit of Christmas. The only thing that does not reflect the Christmas holiday is the calendar itself."Tis’ the season of November" seems to be the more appropriate greeting now-a-days.

I understand people’s infatuation with the sights, sounds, and true meaning of Christmas, but I think certain over-enthusiastic elves are spreading themselves a little thin. The extended festivities of Christmas are overshadowing other important holidays. In fact, for the last few years, one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving, has been significantly under appreciated, like the box of old Christmas ornaments in the back of many attics and basements that people can't find the heart to throw out. Turkeys give up their lives for this special day, and I don't think they should have to listen to "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" whilst being eaten. Black Friday is creeping its way into Thanksgiving Thursday as multiple stores have deemed it necessary to open at 11pm Thursday, as opposed to 12am Friday. Profit drives companies to open earlier, and the publicity of sales and bargains entices people to feed into the frenzy. Individuals wait in line and stampede into business establishments because the store advertised 50% off televisions or some other alluring deal. Grandma may not be getting run over by a reindeer, but she's likely to get trampled by another human being.

They say the magic of Christmas fades as you age, which very well may be true. Unfortunately, as new decades arrive, we have stretched out this holiday's magic to the point where it is indiscernible by December 25. That's why all I want for Christmas is to enjoy my Thanksgiving sans carols, tinsel, and sleigh bells. A count down to the count down of the 25 days of Christmas is a tad excessive (@ABC Family). I'd much rather Charlie Brown Thanksgiving to be aired repeatedly throughout November. I miss Thanksgiving having its own, unique holiday season rather than be tainted by the extravagance of Christmas. The simplicity of Thanksgiving is what makes it such an enjoyable time of year. Well that and the turkey.

If you could hold off on spreading the "Christmas cheer" for a bit, that would be fantastic. I'm not saying people shouldn't get excited about December 25, but maybe storefronts and advertisements could dial it down a notch. Thanksgiving is a holiday to remind people how lucky they are to be able to go out on Black Friday and spend money at leisure. If the deals could hold back, maybe the people would too. I hope you understand where I'm coming from, and that you are willing to help. Please consider what I have said, and enjoy Thanksgiving with your family.
