Last year I took a play writing class and for our final project we had to write a 25 page play. I would like to share with you that play.

CAST OF CHARACTERS:

CHARLIE WELCH: Wealthy surgeon, 32 years old and lives alone in a nice house. Is dating Andria

MRS. JONES: Andria’s mother. Old cat lady who calls Charlie Charles out of spite.

POLICE CHIEF: a big, rectangular, middle-aged man, not smart, has a love for twitter and Rhianna.

ANDRIA JONES: 27, female, blonde, Charlie’s girlfriend

DETECTIVE HEATHER CAMPBELL:

OFFICER IRVING: Obnoxious, slightly idiotic police officer whose only job is to answer the phone and file the paper work.

SCENE I
A sophisticated living room containing two couches, a rug, a large bookcase filled mostly with books, and a coffee table with a bowl of pistachios, two plates a candle, and some silverware on top. Next to the front door there is a table with a bouquet of flowers on it. Through the windows we see ANDRIA walk up to the front door and then hear a door bell ring. CHARLIE enters from stage right carrying a covered tray.

CHARLIE
Just a second!

CHARLIE sets the tray on the coffee table and walks to the door.

ANDRIA
Hi Charlie, happy anniversary! I brought the cake that you like.

CHARLIE
Happy anniversary, darling. Let’s eat, I’m starving!

CHARLIE takes the cake from ANDRIA , helps her with her coat, then hands her the flowers.

ANDRIA
Oh Charlie, these are lovely!

CHARLIE
So, what do you think? I think that it’ll do but I was really hoping my decorator
would have done a better job.

ANDRIA
I think it’s wonderful! You said you’re hungry, so do you—

CHARLIE
Something about it just doesn’t scream me, you know?

ANDRIA
I think-

CHARLIE
Ah well what are we waiting for? Let’s eat!

CHARLIE and ANDRIA move to couch and CHARLIE removes the lid from the tray revealing a chicken.

CHARLIE
Tada!

ANDRIA
It looks delish, Charlie.

CHARLIE begins to cut the chicken.

CHARLIE
Darling, do remember when we met? You’re just as pretty as that day
I saw you standing in line at Trader Joes.

ANDRIA
Oh Charlie, that’s so sweet. Say, I was thinking, how about we take a vacation?

CHARLIE
Sure darling, how does next month sound?

ANDRIA
Next month? I was hoping for something sooner.

CHARLIE
I would love to but I’m completely swamped and the residents are no help.

ANDRIA
Oh. Well…How about we go hiking this weekend?

CHARLIE
Perhaps. I’ll have to see how the rest of this week goes, as I said,
my residents are no help.

ANDRIA
Oh. Okay.

CHARLIE
So how’s the chicken darling?

ANDRIA
It’s fine dear.

Lights fade.

SCENE II
CHARLIE is laying in the bed asleep when suddenly the phone next to the bed rings. CHARLIE jumps awake and sits up.

CHARLIE
Who the hell calls this late?

CHARLIE picks up the phone and MRS. JONES enters stage left.

CHARLIE (cont.)
Hello?

MRS. JONES
Hello, Charles? It’s Mrs. Jones, Andria’s mother…Charles, I’m not sure how to put this
but something…something has happened to Andria…

CHARLIE
Go on.

MRS. JONES
So you see, I couldn’t remember what eggs to buy when I go to the store
tomorrow and I called Andria to ask her and say goodnight.

CHARLIE
Mrs. Jones, I beg you please get to the point.

MRS. JONES
I called Andria and she didn’t answer so I called again. Still no answer.
That’s when I decided to go to her apartment where…

MRS. JONES beaks off sobbing.

CHARLIE
Mrs. Jones, what is the matter? What happened to Andria?

MRS. JONES
I went over to her apartment to check on her, and she was there, but . . .

CHARLIE
But what Mrs. Jones? Mrs. Jones, are you there?

MRS. JONES
She dead Charles! My daughter is dead!

CHARLIE
WHAT!? Are you sure?

MRS. JONES
Do you think that after all of these years I don’t know my own daughter?
You’ve only known her for what, a year? Of course I’m sure!

CHARLIE
Okay Mrs. Jones, calm down. I’m on my way over.

CHARLIE jumps out of bed and runs out the door. Lights fade.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
