All You Need to Know About The Grammy's

You know the year is off to a good start when the Grammy’s deliver an amazing show. This Sunday’s show gave us legendary performances, crazy cool outfits, award surprises (and not too surprising surprises) and some scene stealing moments.

For starters, let’s talk about the looks on the red carpet. I never thought I would live to see the day where Nicki Minaj would be one of the sleekest, best dressed at an award show. We’re all so used to her Gangster Barbie image that when she decides to put away the pink wig, we are in awe. Another star that came out of the woodwork? Kim Kardashian-West. Though she may have been dressed in a bedazzled robe, it was one hell of a robe. From hair, to makeup, to detail on the dress, Mrs. West really took the cake. Miley Cyrus put her rave candy away for the night and showed up in an simple yet sleek cutout black gown. Taylor Swift wore the dress of Cinderella and Elsa’s lovechild. Ciara looked like a glamorous loofah. Beyonce naturally killed it wearing a black, long sleeve Proenza Schouler gown and Rihanna might have worn a cupcake by accident.

We saw a lot of performances Sunday night, from throwbacks to new acts to collabs between the two. Gwen Stefani and Adam Levine now have two things in common: being the only famous element to the bands they each are in and now a shared Grammy performance to “My Heart is Open”. We had some surprise AC/DC action, Hozier and Annie Lennox took the stage to perform “Take Me to Church” and “I Put a Spell on You”, and a glorious duet of “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith and Mary J. Blige took place. You know heartbroken 30-year-olds across the country were jumping with that one.

I think Madonna confused the purpose of her performance with a Satanic ritual, but to each their own. Kanye West got a little soft on us and sang his song “Only One” with nothing but a mic in hand and some spooky lighting. Beyonce proved to us yet again that she really is an angel on Earth with “Take My Hand, Precious Lord”. The best performance of the night in my humble opinion was Sia’s “Chandelier”, with surprise guest Kristin Wiig alongside Sia’s dancing mini-me, Maddie Ziegler. Watching the popular funny-lady get deep and emotional in an interpretive dance was so fun to watch, and props to Wiig for wearing a nude leotard on national television. She should get an award for that. Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett were a class act, and Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Kanye West gave us one of the most legendary performances to their song “FourFiveSeconds” on television we’ll see for a while.

Sam Smith swept the award show, taking home Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album. His thank you speech? A shoutout to his ex last year who inspired the album which gave him four awards his first year. Sometimes heartbreak works out for people. Eminem won Best Rap Album, Kendrick Lamar took home Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for his song “i”, and Pharrell’s Happy took home Best Music Video and Best Live Solo Performance. Frozen’s “Let It Go” won Best Song Written for a Motion Picture (rightfully so), and Paramore, everyone’s favorite band from high school, won their first Grammy! Their song “Ain’t it Fun” brought home the gold. Beyonce won Best R&B Performance for “Drunk in Love”, because, duh. “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit won Best Dance Recording and Beck took home Album of the Year.

Kanye West topped off the night by almost interrupting Beck for his Grammy win because, let’s be honest, Beyonce had the best album of all time.

Til' next year, Grammy’s.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
