Walking around OCU’s campus, an outsider might begin to worry that the campus is full of moody, dramatic artistic types. That is true. All of those people wandering around in all black are acting majors, and the monochromatic wardrobe is required. It may seem like having a dress code would make mornings easier. All you have to do is find a black t-shirt and yoga pants. But you forget that we are artists.
I am the kind of person who puts a lot of thought into what she wears, so it is very upsetting when I start the day wearing sweats and sneakers. On such days, I usually end up changing later just to feel better about myself. But all-black outfits are in and have been for a while. There are a lot of all-black looks out there that we can explore, if we take a little extra time in the morning and the mall. Here are some all-black looks to inspire the acting major.
1. Beret Girl
What an inspiration! I remember thinking she was the fiercest thing to ever exist. Her poetry slam in "A Goofy Movie" is legendary, and her look is iconic. All you need is some black leggings and a quarter sleeve black shirt -- the tighter the better. The loafers will work great for the acting classes you don’t have to wear tennis shoes to. The beret might be bothersome, but that’s what bobby pins are for. If your teacher says you won’t be able to move freely, show them this gif.

2. Beyonce
I know, I’m whipping out the big guns on the second example, but the woman rocks an all-black outfit. And hey, if you’ve got it, flaunt it. There are no rules that your blacks have to be athletic wear. Put on some black lingerie and kill it.
3. Black Widow
If you don’t want to show quite as much skin, try this black tactile suit. Scarlett Johansen can whip around every which way in it, so you know the fabric is flexible. Plus, you won’t have to take your backpack to class, because there’s that handy fanny pack tool belt thing. Win!
4. A Wetsuit
This option is actually just the cheaper version of the previous option.
5. Darth Vader
It might be a strong statement, but don’t be shy. Go intergalactic with your look. Add weird buttons and armor. And capes are always cool.

One of the trickiest parts of wearing all black for class is figuring out what to layer over it in the winter. Do you add a pop of color with a coat or scarf? No. You want to have something that you can pull on in case you get cold in class. But you still need your outfit to be interesting. It's time to accessorize. Find really cool black hats or crowns or those holiday headbands. And don't forget to buy a really great black coat. Under your coat you could be wearing leggings and a t-shirt, but as you walk around campus you look like a moving piece of art. Always look to Lady Gaga for powerful accessory choices.
6. The Blazer
Anything you throw on in the morning can be amped up by a black blazer. Jeans and a t-shirt plus a black blazer equals stylish. A simple jersey dress plus a black blazer equals sophisticated. Your PJs plus a black blazer equals trendsetter. Get one black blazer, and you’ve just invested in a week’s worth of got-my-shit-together outfits.
7. Snazzy Sneaks
The only pop of color to consider is shoes. Go freaking crazy with your shoes. I don’t know why it looks so cool, but it does. Plus, it makes the shoes look even cooler. Maybe you’re just wearing some white sneakers from Payless, but if the rest of your outfit is completely black, then those shoes are intentional. You’re showcasing those sneakers, and they look like a freaking beacon of light and hope in this dark world.
There it is, all the inspiration you need to create your ultimate actor's blacks look. Now you have to face the hardest challenge of the actor’s wardrobe: paying for it. Good luck with that.
