All Aboard the Hot Mess Express!

If you are a mess, you might as well be a hot one!

All Aboard the Hot Mess Express!

We all have our days when we feel like our lives are a mess. You lock your keys in your car, or you miss the bus. Just a tiny incident to add a little bit of stress to your day. We can almost come to terms with this because nobody is perfect and not everything will go as we planned. But at what point does your life become a hot mess?

A day in the life of a hot mess would be a day when you lock your keys in your car and arrive at the bus stop just as soon as the bus is pulling away -- as rain is pouring down. Overall, it's a rough day that has you questioning why bad things happen to good people. Dramatic? Maybe, but when your life is a hot mess, this is not just one day. It is every day! You might be a hot mess if a typical day in your life sounds like this day:

  • Eight? My class is not until nine. I can sleep for five more minutes.
  • No! It is 8:30. I overslept, again!
  • Traffic on the way to class? Sure, this will only take forever.
  • Cannot find a parking spot.
  • I am fairly certain that the universe is working against me, today.
  • Well, I am only 15 minutes late to class, and I got to sleep late. I can still consider today a success.
  • Take that, Universe!
  • How much time do we have between classes? Ten minutes?
  • That is enough time to grab coffee.
  • Or a smoothie because I missed breakfast.
  • I cannot miss the most important and delicious meal of the day!
  • Unless I do skip breakfast and eat an early lunch.
  • Nope. I want both.
  • This line is taking forever.
  • And this is not what I ordered.
  • Oh, well, it's delicious.
  • I wonder what this is so that I can order it next time.
  • I now have one minute to get to my class across campus.
  • I wish I had a bike. I could get there so fast.
  • Just kidding. If I had a bike, I would probably lose it.
  • Or crash it and injure myself.
  • Bikes equal bad idea.
  • That homework was due today?
  • Better luck next time.
  • Cannot find my clicker.
  • Wow. I left it on my desk back in my room.
  • I could have just skipped class today.
  • At least I will benefit when it comes to the test.
  • Eh, probably not.

Sound like you? Then, you are probably a hot mess. However, there is hope for all of the hot messes out there. Although some days feel like life is just slapping you across the face, a lot of these situations can be avoided with proper organization. Maybe pack your bag the night before as to guarantee that you have all the materials you need for the next day, or make a check list to go through before you leave. Time management is essential to organization. There is no hot mess that can not be cleaned up with a little bit of proper planning.

If you just have bad luck, I cannot speak for that. Like I said, in life there are no guarantees that everything will turn out as we hope, but when things go wrong, sometimes we just have to grin and bear it, and eventually laugh ourselves because sometimes it takes a hot mess day to make the other days seem that much better.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
