Dear grandparents,
I know a lot of people who have the typical relationship with their grandparents. They see them once or twice a year for holidays or get-togethers and that's about it. Me, on the other hand, I can't even count all of the weeks and years we have spent creating one of a kind memories.
How lucky am I to have you as my grandparents? When I was a kid, I couldn't believe how cool it was that you let us eat spaghettios for breakfast and stayed up watching movies with us. But as I get older, I realize more and more what an important part of my life you've been and that I don't know who I would be without you.
You've taught me so many things over the years. You taught me how to believe in magic and all of the small, beautiful things in life. Year after year, you made me believe in myself and reminded me of all of my accomplishments. You taught me the importance in family and staying close. You moved 546 miles just to be close to us and let us know that you cared about even the most minute details of our lives.
You taught me about real love and that it doesn't matter what age you find it. Through your choices and the road you've traveled, you've shown me that it's never too late to change your life and be the person that you want to be. It's never too late for a new beginning. Through your life and faith, I have learned to hold strong in the things I believe in and be passionate about. I have learned that just my simple acts can change a life. The two of you have changed countless people's lives and I can only hope that I am able to do the same. Through volunteering, teaching, and opening up your home, you have taught kindness and love to many who had not felt it in a long time. Even in the face of sickness and pain, you give up your time and energy to spread a little more love.
You have shown me the value of education and never giving up. At almost 50 years old, grandma, you graduated from college with straight A's. You took classes over the course of a decade and you finished what you put your mind to. Pappa, you have taught me to be kind and gentle. You are one of the greatest men in my life. You both have taught me that it is important to take care of yourself and be true to yourself.
I could write an entire book on the lessons you taught me and the love you have shown me. At the end of the day, though, there's no way I can put the impact you've made on me into words. This is for all of the grandparents that are more than just grandparents, and that's exactly what the two of you are. You have helped me turn into the strong, loving person that I am today and I wouldn't give that up for anything. The world is a better place because of you.
Love you, always.
