6 Agatha Christie Novels You Should Start Reading Now

Reading is one of my passions. To me, the perfect job is one where I can spend my time reading and reading. I have been an intense reader since I was nine years old and one of my first authors I got enchanted with was Agatha Christie. I always liked detective shows; stories where someone is murdered and a detective investigates the case until we have an unexpected guilty killer.

Agatha Christie lived a hundred years ago where being a female writer was not easy and where being a famous, rich female writer was almost impossible. You can read her books and think they are not good enough or that they are not literature, but you cannot also deny today she is the most famous writer in the police-mystery genre. Producers have adapted many of her books for TV and cinema.

This article is about my favorite Agatha Christie novels. Let me tell you she wrote over a hundred books. They are perfect if you like murder drama or if you want to read a non-complicated book. Her novels are perfect for planes, for phases where you do not have time to read, or because you want to follow the clues and try to discover who the killer is.

1. “And Then There Were None.”

Agatha Christie

"And Then There Were None" is my favorite Agatha Christie's book. The first time I read it, I was 10 years old, and it impacted me. Actually, at that time, the novel called "Ten Little Niggers." It might sound racist, but it is not. The story is about a song, and the name of the song is "Ten Little Niggers."

The story is placed in an abandoned island where ten people were invited for a mysterious guy. None one knew the other, and they start dying. I can promise you will not have any idea who the murder is.

2. “Death on the Nile.”

"Death on the Nile" is a masterpiece of the suspense genre. All the story happens in Egypt, where a rich woman is murdered in her room, and the principal suspect is with one of the most famous detectives in the world "Hercule Poirot."

The end is an absolute surprise. There are some movies based on this book; the most important is one with the same name made it in 1978 with Mia Farrow, Bette Davis, and Angela Lansbury. Maybe, next year we can have a new version in the movie theaters.

3. “Murder on the Orient Express.”

"Murder on the Orient Express" is one of the most famous Hercule Poirot's cases. Poirot was in this train where a notorious criminal was killed. By the time, Poirot discovers many of the passengers had a reason to kill the guy.

This book has two important film adaptations. The most famous was in 1974 with Albert Finney, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Sean Connery, Anthony Perkins, and Vanessa Redgrave, to mention some of the cast. In this movie, Ingrid Bergman won the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress; the best is she only is on camera for less than thirty minutes.

There is another version in 2017 with Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, and Michelle Pfeiffer. I do not like this version, but you can try it anyway.

4. “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.”

"The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" is the typical murder novel, but it has two important differences. First, it is narrated in the first person who makes the story more personal. Second, it is super funny; I laughed a lot with this book. The detective of this case is again Hercule Poirot, but you are going to see him in a different point of view.

5. “Sleeping Murder.”

In "Sleeping Murder," the detective is Ms. Marple, the other Agatha Christie's main character. This old England lady who has a boring life is smart enough to resolve many cases. In this one, the protagonist is a young woman who buys a house, but she has some feelings and memories of this place; a place she never saw before. Are we talking about a past life or superpowers?

It is a great story and easy to read. Also, I know there is a TV adaptation of this book made by the BBC. I can recommend it.

6. “The A.B.C. Murders.”

Amazon Prime Video

A mysterious murder is killing people by the initial of his victims' names. Also, these murders are related to the railway and specific cities. Again, Hercule Poirot will find out who it is the criminal behind these crimes.

She has too many books and options that you can choose another of her novels and the feelings will be the same: mystery, doubts, many possible killers and an unexpected ending. These books are perfect to have a good time.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
