Well, the day has finally come where I have headed back home for the summer, and my freshman year of college is officially complete. This year has been filled with a lot of soul searching as well as new experiences that I would have never even dreamed of doing. Everyone says that your college experience will fly by, and that these are times that are meant to be cherished, and, from what I have experienced so far, they surely are right! This year seemed to fly by within seconds! Now, to all the incoming freshman, here are some words of advice.
Let me tell you, the first day you are going to be terrified. Everything on campus looks very intimidating, especially the people! As days go by, you will learn to treat this new environment like your home. Eventually, you will 100 percent feel that it is your home, and if it doesn’t feel like home within the first semester, my best advice is to look for a new school. There is no point sticking around a place that does not make you comfortable, because you will not pursue the dreams you once had. Also, the first week or two, you will get lost a thousand or so times, but do not be afraid to ask someone, because it just may turn out that they are incredibly lost too, and now you’ve made a friend.
Moving on from the first week, let’s get into roommates. The best decision you will make is choosing a roommate as randomly as possible, because more likely than not, they will be a perfect match. So many people go into college dorming with someone they have previously known, and in most cases, they no longer speak to each other. So, find someone you don’t know and you may just find your new best friend. Also, when packing to come to college, you do not need all of those dresses because leggings will become your best friend. Also, go ahead and put that mop back, you most likely won’t need it.
So, here are some final words of advice to keep in mind as you reach this new exciting stage in your life. Take advantage of all the free events that the college holds; you’re paying for them anyway. Make at least one friend within your class, they will be very helpful to you in the future. Thank your parents for everything before you leave, and call your mother at least once a week because this transition is just as hard for them. Most importantly, have fun! Do everything that you have dreamed of, and remember the actual reason you are there is to learn!
