Senior year of high school, otherwise known as one of the most cherished and memorable years of one's life. During this time, students become extremely eager to become independent and begin the next chapter of their lives. Based on my experience, many seniors tend to rush through the year, counting down the days until graduation. I've learned that by doing this, you can miss out on one of the best years of your life. Here are a few pieces of advice I wish someone had told me during my senior year of high school.
Do your homework.
Yes, I understand your classes aren't very difficult. Yes, I know you've been accepted to college already and grades "don't matter" anymore. Unfortunately, that does not mean you have to stop doing homework. You should get yourself into the habit of completing assignments because you will have plenty of homework to do in college.
You can have a fun night without partying.
Having a fun night is not necessarily about what you're doing, but who you're spending it with. If you're with the right group of people, then you don't need alcohol and drugs do have a good time.
Respect and appreciate your teachers.
Believe it or not, these will be some of the most memorable and special people in your life who are going to help you until the end. They will be there cheering you on at graduation, hoping to see you succeed in the future.
Take a lot of pictures.
Don't be embarrassed to have the reputation as the friend who is always taking pictures. Capture as many moments as you can, whether it's goofing off with friends or going out for the night, oh, and you can't forget about spirit week.
Don't let senioritis get the best of you.
Many seniors are notoriously (self) diagnosed with senioritis, causing them to lose motivation and slack off during the school year. Try to fight these feelings because otherwise, college is going to bite you in the butt. It's best to keep a strong work ethic because there is not going to be a time in your life when slacking off is acceptable.
Don't stress about picking a major.
There seems to be a lot of pressure to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life, which in my opinion is absolutely ridiculous. Sure you have some sort of idea, but don't let it drive you crazy. Figure out what it is you don't want to do and then go from there. You have more time than you think.
Take prom seriously.
Sometimes we tend to overlook prom with the excitement of after prom festivities, but take the time to enjoy prom night. It's an excellent chance to get dressed up and have an awesome time with friends. Plus you'll look back at pictures and wish you could relive the whole experience.Plan a fun, yet appropriate senior prank.
Trust me, the last thing you need is something that going to get you arrested or expelled. Brainstorm something creative and fun (not stupid) with your grade to "leave your mark" on the school.
Do something you enjoy.
Whether it's sports, drama, art, chorus or any other particular club or activity, take your last year to participate in something fun and enjoyable. You'll meet awesome new people and add endless positive experiences to your year.
I've learned through experience to live in the present and appreciate the environment you're currently in. After all, you won't realize you're in the good old days until you've left them.
