Welcome to college: a young adult’s first step into the awaiting real world. For many, it is their first time being (sort of) on their own. For others (like me), they still call Mom and Dad whenever they can’t figure something out. But, try as we might, we clearly aren’t there yet when it comes to the world of full-grown adulthood. Here are the 7 signs you still aren’t adulting yet.
1. You consider Pizza Rolls to be a quality meal option.
There's tomato sauce, so that counts as a vegetable, right? Or is it a fruit? Might as well count it as both.
2. Your parents pay your rent.
And your utilities. And your food. Let's face it: Living on your own is expensive. That stuff adds up real quick. And unless you are somehow working a full-time job while going to school, your parents are probably helping you out with some, if not all, of the bills.
3. You still get an allowance from your parents.
Now, this goes beyond just having them pay your room and board. I'm talking about an allowance for spending money. If your parents give you money to spend on things like clothes and dinner out, you are definitely not adulting yet.
4. The grocery store overwhelms you.
Usually, I go into the grocery store only knowing that I need food. I may try to plan out meals for the week, but then the cost of ingredients overwhelms me, and I just settle for frozen meals. Again. The only actual cooking I have done was brownies. And even then I forgot the Pam.
5. You still use your family's Netflix account.
And cable provider login. If your parents can simply change the password when they want you to call them, you probably aren't a full adult yet.
6. You celebrate Margarita Mondays.
And Tequila Tuesdays... and Wine Wednesdays... and Thirsty Thursdays. Let's face it. If you are using every day of the week as an excuse to drink, you probably aren't adulting. Or maybe you are just adulting the right way. I wouldn't know.
7. You actually use the term "adulting" as a part of your regular vocabulary.
So, maybe I'm guilty of most of these things, but that's okay. Clearly, I'm not adulting yet. But you know what? I'm not in any rush, and you shouldn't be either. Enjoy your youth, because pretty soon you will be forced into the real world – and when that happens, there is no going back.
