Lets face the facts: we're all getting old. Everyone I know is getting to be 19 and older and that is when the real fun starts that happens to be called the real world. The world that your family and tv shows have been warning you about all these years. Whether you know it or not, if you think these 7 thoughts or close to them, you're an adult. Let's get on the relatable adult struggle bus together.
1. "You should really eat your groceries you already have at your house."
I put this as my number one because it is the main thing that I and I'm sure everyone else struggles with. I always go on a binge about how I am trying to save money and I will go grocery shopping to help not go out to eat as much, but we all know we end up barely touching the food that is in the pantry and going to Taco Bell twice a week as normal anyways.
I know and you know that we need to save money for future things, but Park and Recreation's Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle ruined that a long time ago for everyone with giving us all the mindset of: "TREAT YOURSELF."
2. "Credit Cards and Credit is totally a thing."
I didn't even know credit cards were a thing until I became 18 years old. High school and parentals gave me no knowledge on what they were. Even when I was 18, I just knew the basics about a credit card and credit and thought it was so glorious, until I started researching and realizing there is nooks and cranny things about credit and credit cards that you need to know before you decide to hop on the credit train.
There are APRs, payments, length you've even had credit (yeah they check you for that too! its crazy!) and making sure you make enough to even afford. Those companies are the Sherlock Holmes of your life financially. They play no games. When I first applied for one I barely had any money in my bank account and switching in between jobs so of course I got declined, but I was so upset because I didn't get why I was declined.
Now that I've researched on what credit and a credit card is andworked my money up and what not, I have been approved for multiple and have some now that I use every now and then and have to pay off. Building your credit is a must do now a days which requires you to have credit cards.
3. "I have so many bills."
Once you move out on your own, lets face it: you have bills! Rent, Electricity, Water, Car payment, Insurance, Phone, and even Cable. Oh the joy! We all know that was sarcasm because who wants to pay bills?
The things that come every month that pile up and haunt you in your sleep. The only thing constant in most of our adult lives. Some of us may have never been late on bills, but still no one likes seeing the money disappear in a matter of seconds from their bank account. I never knew there was so many bills to be paid until I moved out on my own.
4. "I have to clean."
I never cleaned that much when I still lived at home. I was quite fortunate... But now, I don't have mom nor can I afford a cleaning person so now I have to do it. I have to sweep, do the dishes, tidy, scrub the bathrooms, etc.
The list goes on and on. The things that make you wore slap out for not even doing for an hour. Once you get so use to it, any type of mess in your household drives you nuts and you have to clean it up. Because face it, if you don't do it, no one will and then your house will just be dirty forever.
5. "I have to do laundry before I run out."
I didn't have to do much laundry when I was younger thanks to mom, but now.. OH BOY! If I don't do my laundry it just piles up and piles up until I look like I live in a mountain of clothes and have to go around places butt naked. And no one wants that.
6. "Man,toilet paper and laundry detergent is expensive."
None of us had to buy that when we lived at home, but once we moved out we do. I know I'm not the only one who has gone to the store for the first time out of your own and almost had a stroke in the aisle because of how expensive toilet paper and laundry detergent is. Just to keep our butt cleans and clothes clean, we have to fork out hella money. It's crazy.
7. "Can I be a child again?"
After doing the adult life, we've all sat down and sighed or maybe even cried wishing about being a child again. Going back to the carefree days where mommy and daddy paid for everything and you didn't have to worry about anything at all besides going to school, your favorite show, and if Johnny liked you. The days where bills, credit, cleaning, and spending money were non existent.
If only there was a rewind machine or a pause button in life. We can only wish... Until then, guess we will be adults.
