Jimmy Buffett is the ultimate partying, good time loving, beach going, rum drinking man. He's essentially the GOAT of the island life, and of a lifestyle I wouldn't mind living every day. I grew up off of his music, wishing I could go to Margaritaville (even before I knew what exactly it was) and eating Cheeseburgers in Paradise as often as I could. I read his books, and have been to quite a few Margaritaville's in my young life. So basically, I'm pretty familiar with the lifestyle that he lives and that is associated with his persona.
Recently, I read an article that was for a #Buffett2016 campaign run, and I couldn't agree more. But then I thought, "Why should we only want Buffett's lifestyle to be the norm if he becomes President? Why can't we live like Jimmy all the time?"
That's when I realized, we can.
For those of you who don't know, the Buffett lifestyle consists mainly of an everybody do your own thing mentality, with lots of easy living. Basically, the lifestyle of an island goer that drinks a whole lotta rum. But don't worry, you can achieve this chill mentality without consuming copious amounts of rum (or your alcohol of choice).
The main idea surrounding Jimmy and his Parrothead's (Jimmy's followers) laid back attitudes is simple: be kind, mind your own business, and don't worry about what others around you are doing. Be your own person, and believe in whatever the heck you want. Smile more than half of the time, and never take life too seriously.
Basically, live as though you're on a permanent vacation and that it's always five o'clock somewhere. Sounds simple enough right? And apparently it works, since Jimmy has a successful music career, an entire chain of restaurants, and is the owner of Landshark Lager.
It's possible to live like Jimmy all the time, even if you aren't on a sandy beach enjoying a never-ending happy hour. As Jimmy says, "It takes no more time to look on the good side of life as it takes to look on the bad." Embrace all that life has to give, and don't let any of the experiences bypass you. Take time for things you want to do, and don't let the stresses of life bog you too far down in the dumps. Kinda reminds you of the whole "don't worry, be happy" that Bob Marly preached, right?
So, the next time you're hardcore stressing and ready to tear your hair out due to work, school, or your significant other, take a deep breath, imagine yourself on a white sandy beach with a Pina Colada in your hand and put on Jimmy Buffett's greatest hits (which in my opinion is all of them). You'll be living easy in no time.
