Actually, Loose Lips Keep Ships Afloat

You're not just a dumb kid, you know what you're talking about.

Remember when we learned the Bill of Rights our freshman year of high school and the easiest one to remember was the first one: freedom of speech.

Currently, our freedom of speech has become a catch 22. We're told to speak our minds, but then sometimes we have to censor it. We're told to say how we feel, but then told the way we feel is disrespectful.

I'm here to tell you that uncensored and "disrespectful" speech is what our society was built on, therefore no one has the liberty to tell you what you're saying is invalid. (Yes, that goes for your parents and your school.)

LeBron James, the mogul of the NBA, was just recently re-directed by a tv-host to just "shut up and dribble" after speaking out about our current president and his tactics.

I'm confused, I thought all speech was "free" but I guess speaking out about how you feel on a global platform costs you your image and then some change.

LeBron's voice holds more value in society than anyone else but that doesn't mean your voice should be silenced. When we speak out and say how we feel we allow room for change and mere awareness amongst the listeners, supporters and even spectators of the issue.

It's almost comedic that during high school our parents and teachers put so much emphasis on being honest with them about things we've experienced but that relationship was conditional.

We could say we weren't feeling good, but if it was due to anything that occurred under their authority it was assumed to be us being immature or just being a "dumb teenager."

Lol, what happened to saying how I felt? How I feel may create some troubled waters but speaking out about it releases pressure between both of us and keeps the ship afloat.

If you've been silent and hesitating to speak, this year is the year to speak up because as you can see from all the sexual assault victims, Parkland victims and LeBron James's acts of courage that change is only a few nouns and verbs away.

Consequently, we have to be ready for the impact our voices will have, whether that be good or bad the impact will make you question whether you want to speak again because not everyone is as thoughtful and intelligent as you are.

The answer will always be yes if you ask yourself that question. You deserve to be heard anytime you feel anything.

For the old people really trying to zip the lips of the future, you're going to regret it one day I can promise because in a few years or even months, everything you grew up to value and believe will be forgotten about because that one, dumb millennial decided to speak up and changed the world for the better.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
