A random act of kindness is defined as, "a selfless act performed by a person or a group wishing to either assist or to cheer up a individual person is to be kind, thoughtful, use your manners, give out compliments, volunteer, and or forgive someone."
I was given a challenge, and I'm inviting you to do the same. I was challenged to do a random act of kindness on two different accounts.
One: an e-mail to my team from my coach
Two: through my church
These random acts can be as simple as paying it forward at a restaurant or coffee shop, paying for the car behind you in the toll booth on the interstate, or leaving an encouraging note on someone's car. You can really do any small, meaningful action that would make a stranger smile.
Three of my best friends and I spent two hours and $90 at Chick-fil-a jumping in line to pay for strangers meals. Let me tell you -- it was the coolest thing. The reactions were priceless, and the feeling my friends and I had after swiping the gift card was indescribable. We would have stayed there all day if we could have. Giving to a random stranger that you have never met before, and likely will never meet again, gives you time to stop thinking about the stress of final exams; the end of the semester; the stress of the holiday season and tangible gifts. It gives you a break to remember the reason for the season.
We're giving because of what God gave us in a manger on a cold December night.
You don't know the battle someone may be fighting, or the fought they've just won. What you're doing may just be a random act to you, but your random act probably means more to the person on the receiving end than you could ever imagine -- you never know how you're impacting someone else by a seemingly unimportant action. We rise up by first lifting others. Let yourself be used by Him and shine your light onto this world that can, too often, appear much darker than it is. Let your light shine.
You never know, it just might change your life.
