20 Activities To Help Destress The Body

Being stressed out is never fun for anybody. Stress comes at almost any point and it can be hard to remain calm at times. Whether it be during finals, or before (or after) an interview or just in general. Here's a list of some ways that you can try to help de-stress yourself when this feeling comes to you.

1. Listen to music

Make a playlist of your favorite songs and put it on shuffle and repeat. Plug your earphones in, or even plug it into a speaker and blare the sound. Play your favorite music and tune out the rest of the world.

2. Take a bath

Preferably a warm bubble bath (that's the way I go) but however you like it, take a bath. Turn the lights off and play some music. Get in the tub and just relax.

3. If the weather is nice, sit outside

Find a nice place, if its outside your house or another place and just sit outside. Enjoy all the sounds of nature and refreshing smell of outside.

4. Take a walk

It doesn't have to be a long walk, just a walk that can help you think of all the happy things around you.

5. Go on a drive to a new place

Hop in a car and go to an unknown destination. You don't always have to know where you are going to go for a drive. Roll the windows down and blare your music and just breathe.

6. Paint

Find a blank canvas or whatever you want to paint on. Use your favorite colors and paint whatever you feel like.

7. Put on your favorite movie and wrap yourself up in a fuzzy blanket

Fuzzy blankets are always best during winter and if you're next to a warm fire. You can use them whenever you feel comfortable, though. Put on your favorite movie and get comfortable however you like.

8. Make your favorite dessert

Head to the kitchen and look up your favorite recipe. Make your favorite dessert and enjoy it.

9. Text your best friend

Text your best friends and talk to them. It doesn't matter what it is about, but text them and just talk to them. Hearing from your best friends always is a good feeling.

10. Try out yoga

Look up some yoga poses and try them out. Yoga is soothing and will help clear your mind/

11. Try to watch the sunset or sunrise

Go out to an open spot and watch the sunset. Or if you even want to stay up, or wake up early enough, go out and watch the sunrise. You'll enjoy nature by watching the sun

12. Go stargazing

Go out to an open spot with no trees. Lay a blanket out and look up at the night sky. You can make a bet to see how many constellations you can find. The stars are beautiful and one of the best things to look at.

13. Take a nap either inside or outside in a hammock if it's nice enough

Find your favorite place indoors or set up a hammock outside if the weather is nice enough. Nap for around 20 minutes, that is the best amount of time to nap.

14. Write in a journal

Go get a new journal and free write in it. Make sure to write in it whenever you feel like it, whether that be every hour or every day.

15. Go on a long bike ride

Hop on your bike and head down the road. Go for as long as you feel like.

16. Write someone a letter

Whether this be your favorite person, a relative or even to your future self, grab a piece of paper and start writing. Write whatever you feel like. You can decide to actually give it to them when you're done or just keep it.

17. Read a book / Reread your favorite one

Find a new book, or one that you loved to read and read it whenever you have the chance to.

18. Go for a swim

Throw on your favorite suit and go jump in the water. You can swim for hours if you feel like it. You can even hop on a floaty and just float and relax all day.

19. Hang out with your closest friends

Let your friends know you want to see them and plan a time for you all to hang out. Sometimes being around your friends is the best therapy to de-stress.

20. Breathe

Breathe. Never forget this. In for 8 counts and out for 5. Breathing always helps, no matter the situation.

Life can be tough, almost everybody knows that. It's best not to get your head all of the time and make yourself miserable. Try out some activities to help you destress!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
