The first thing a person must have before applying for an internship or a job is a resume. Resumes are the starting point towards impressing any employer and first impressions are very important. One won't get a second chance at a good first impression, that's why it's important to make sure your resume is presentable and excellent. We live in a highly competitive world so keep in mind that your resume isn't the only one that potential employers will look at.
They don't want to see a long resume that will take up their time. They're looking for something short and quick to read so try to stick to bullet points. Also, remember to only include keywords that will catch their attention. When starting a resume, if you're not sure what you need to include, there are websites that will help you build your resume. Now, there is more than just one kind of resume. It all depends on what kind of job/internship you're looking for. The four standard resumes are Chronological, Functional, Combination, and Targeted.
Chronological: This type of resume mostly focuses on your work history. You would write down your work history backwards, starting from your current job to your first. This is the best kind of resume to use if you have a solid job history with no gaps. This is also the most commonly used type of resume.
Functional: This resume focuses more on your skills and experiences. They would be placed on the top of the resume. This is mostly used by college students who may not have a very strong work history.
Combination: This resume is a combination of both your skills and experiences as well as your work history, hence why it's called a combination resume. This kind sort of lets you tell an employer a story about yourself. You will get a chance to show, in more detail, what kind of worker you are.
Targeted: This is fairly easy to know that this is the kind of resume that you would use if you are trying to get a specific job. All of your information would be based on what that specific job is looking for. If you choose to go with this kind of resume just know that it is very time-consuming and you can't try to make your resume more interesting by adding things that aren't entirely true. Stick to who you really are.
It's never too early to have a resume, in fact, I highly suggest you make one right away if you haven't already. It's good to be prepared just in case an opportunity shows up.
