The ABC's of SJU

A – APEX

Every spring break, SJU sends approximately 500 students to the Appalachian region to help others.


B – Barbelin

Easily SJU’s trademark building commonly gets mistaken for Hogwarts.


C – Campion

The biggest love-hate relationship at SJU, Known for their delicious home made chocolate chip cookies.


D – Drexel Library

Also known as #CLUBLIB where students are found socializing more than studying.


E – East Shuttle

The savior for freshman and those without cars on campus.This form of transformation leads us to the magical land of Target, Chipotle, and Q’Doba.


F – Formal Season

A time in which all the sororities and fraternities dress up and take school buses to a venue, commonly takes place in late November/early December.


G – Father Gillespie

The former president SJU.


H – Holy War/Hawk

One of the biggest basketball games in college basketball verse out arch-rival, Villanova.

SJU’s mascot, which was named one of the best “College Basketball Traditions” in 2014 by NCAA.COM, probably due to the fact that the Hawk flaps his wings NON-STOP during basketball games… talk about arm day.


I – Iñigo

A series of events held for the freshmen class.


J – Jesuit

The morals of which SJU is founded on, leading students to serve others.


K – Kinney

One of the unique aspects here at SJU. Kinney does not only give students an opportunity to work with individuals with autism, but also provides services for those kids and their families.


L –Larry’s

Not just some guy’s name, but the go to place for cheese fried after a party – must popular between the hours of 12am and 1am.


M – Magis

The motto of SJU, inspiring students to live greater and to do more.


N – The Nest

The Holy Grail of information.This website allows you to access your grades, school calendars, your schedule, and anything else your little heart desires.


O – Overbrook Market

Located across the street from Pennbrook, home to the best bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches in the area.


P – Pope Francis

Maybe you’ve heard of him?? But the students of SJU have seen him….on our campus.


Q – Quizzo

Trivia night at the Landmark Diner.


R – Red Shirt

The first people to greet you at SJU, also known for their amazing BLD dance moves.


S – Spring Concert

One of the biggest student run events at SJU, hosting big names such as Ludacris, Krewella, Lupe Fiasco, and Macklemore.


T – THWND

One of the many chants here during the basketball games.


U – Undefeated in football

HAHA…get it? Because we don’t have a football team.


V – As in Beat Villanova

Seriously, can we beat them during the Holy War this year? Pretty please?


W – Wrap

Ahhh the Hawk Wrap.Hawk Wraps are one of SJU’s novelties made up of fried chicken and their super secret “Hawk sauce.”


X – "X" Marks the spot

The seal on the floor in Mandeville Hall, which you should never ever EVER step on.


Y – Yik Yak

A common app found at most colleges in which students complain about stuff rather than actually doing something about it.


Z – Zoo

The Philadelphia Zoo, along with Center City is in close proximity of SJU…making our location #prime.
