My A1 Since Day One

My A1 Since Day One

Here's to my A1 since day one. Literally. Happy Mother's Day to the most amazing woman in the universe.

Lucky doesn't even describe how I feel about getting to call you my mom. You have had my back through anything, and I wouldn't ask for that to ever change. The past eight months haven't been the easiest for our family after dad passed away, but you have handled yourself with more strength and grace then I have ever seen in anyone.

You inspire me every day to be like you. I want to have a lasting impact on the people I meet, like you. I want to bring smiles to everyone as soon as I enter the room, like you. I want to be as great as you.

From day one, you have always shown me the most unconditional love one could give to their child. I am so lucky to have grown up with that, and it hasn't changed one bit (even after being a pain in your butt for 20 years). Not once have you given up on me. Through all of the crazy tattoos, piercings, and hair dye you have stuck with me. Not like you had a choice, but you smiled, and loved me through it all.

Seven months ago when you gave me the devastating news that dad had passed away I thought my world was going to fall apart. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to return to school, and if I did go back to school, I had no idea if you were going to be okay, or if I was even going to be okay. Wow, did I underestimate you. It was such a tough time for us, but you pulled yourself together for me and my sisters. The three of us were very lucky to have such a strong role model during that time because, to be completely honest, when I came back to school I wanted to curl up in a ball most of the time and just cry. With that being said, though, I could always rely on that one phone call a day from you mom that would just brighten things tremendously. No matter what we talked about, just hearing your voice made things so much better. I can't think of any better way to brighten my day other than talking to my mom.

I am so lucky to say that my mom is my best friend, and to really mean that (no Megan, you haven't been fully replaced). Not many girls get to say that they talk to their mom about everything, and anything. I love that I can say that.

I know we have our differences, but I wouldn't have it any other way. You have loved me through everything, and stood by my side. I promise to do the same for you. I will always love you, and I will always be by your side. I love the relationship that we have, and hope that it will always be that way.

So, happy Mother's Day to the best mom out there. And yes, I really do mean the best mom out there. I hope you have a great day. Throw your feet up, pour yourself a drink, and enjoy the beach. Go wild, it's Mother's Day! You deserve it today, and everyday.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
