A Playlist From A Middle Schooler's iPod In 2014

I started my middle school years in 2012 as a sixth-grader. This was a crucial time period for my taste in music because it evolved so much in 3 years and really took on its own shape. I learned during middle school that I was really into indie/pop-rock music, boybands, Bollywood music, and just songs that sounded good in general.

I really liked being able to vibe to good music while doing work or exercising. As a middle schooler, I wasn't allowed to have a phone yet, but the closest thing I had was an iPod touch, which I really loved at the time. It was very similar to an iPhone, but it could not be used for calling.

My iPod housed the large collections of songs I loved and adored at the time, and it was one of my most prized possessions. I had so much music for so many different moods, but I noticed that most of my music during this time was energetic and moving.

1. "Hey Soul Sister" — Train

2. "Fireflies" — Owl City

3. "Living Louder" — The Cab

4. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" — Panic at the Disco

5. "Somewhere in Neverland" — All Time Low

6. "Tell Me I'm a Wreck" — Every Avenue

7. "Everything has Changed" — Taylor Swift ft. Ed Sheeran

8. "Check Yes, Juliet" — We The Kings

9. "Loverboy" — You Me At Six

10. "Don't Wanna Go Home" — Jason Derulo

11. "Down" — Jay Sean

12. "Forever" — Chris Brown

13. "Don't Say Goodnight" — Hot Chel

14. "A Different Side of Me" — Allstar Weekend

15. "Come Back Home" — We Are The In Crowd

16. "Scene Three-Stomach Tied in Knots" — Sleeping With Sirens

17. "Waiting for the End" — Linkin Park

18. "Die Young" — Kesha

19. "Good Feeling" — Flo Rida

20. "Everybody Talks" — Neon Trees

21. "Starships" — Nicki Minaj

22. "Payphone" — Maroon 5, Wiz Khalifa

23. "Mirrors" — Justin Timberlake

24. "Just the Way You Are" — Bruno Mars

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
