Let’s not kid ourselves here, ladies. We will continue to sport the basic leggings, Nike shorts, XL t-shirts, tennis shoes, and boots look during 2014. However, we are always in need of a little “spicing up” when it comes to hitting the town with friends or going on a date. As I was skimming a Glamour article online, I found 10 different styles that fashionistas predict to become popular trends of 2014. Maybe your New Year’s resolution is #NewYear #NewYou, and perhaps that involves finding a new wardrobe or style. Try adding some of this apparel to your closet to amp up your look!
1. Pastels
Pastels can add that pop of color to an outfit without the overwhelmingness of a neon or bright color. Pastels are greats for shirts, skirts, pants, and accessories alike!
2. Boxy, Cropped (Non-Moto) Jackets
Layer up! A cropped jacket can add that last minute touch to your favorite skirt, dress, or your best jeans. There is a boxy, cropped jacket out there for all styles and shapes if you pair it just right.
3. Contrast-Collar Button Downs
Whether you are going out, going to work, or heading to an interview, a button down can be an extremely versatile piece to your clothing collection. Button downs give off a modern yet mature vibe.
4. Wide-Leg Trousers
Some people fear wide-leg trousers due to their height, but fear no more! These trousers can be worn by those both tall and short. However, make sure you find the right flare that also fits you right (either high or low waisted), depending on your body type.
5. Bomber Jackets
Bomber jackets come in various designs and patterns, which leaves room for you to let your fashion style go wild or mild, depending on your mood. These jackets are the perfect addition to your closet and can fit any style, whether you are looking for a sporty or rocker look. For a sporty look, look for one with a mesh-like feel. For a rocker look, look for a more leathery texture. Try all styles of the bomber jacket... there is no such thing as too many jackets, right?
6. Tea-Length Skirts
This is a personal favorite of mine! Although many think that a Tea-Length Skirt (in between maxi and midi) can appear to be an awkward length, this type of skirt is flattering and can make you look taller if paired with the right crop top. Options are endless with this skirt because it can be dressed up or down, while also being modern or girlie.
7. Sweaters
Who does not love a good sweater? Sweaters are vital to everyone’s closet regardless of the season. Light or heavy, sweater patterns vary along with their length and shape. Furthermore, new sweaters are a must-have for everyone's ensemble.
8. Athletic/Tuxedo Striped Trousers
Most folks are too scared to try an athletic style tuxedo striped trouser. Be daring, and try on a pair of these sleek trousers with a non-button-down top. Turn heads with these one-of-a-kind trousers.
9. The Shift Blouse
Made in varying necklines, the shift blouse almost gives off the look of a t-shirt with it's boxiness, however it is far more elegant and stylish. The sleeve almost hits the elbow, keeping it slenderizing, yet flexible. The shift blouse is a must-have for this year.
10. Collarless Coats
The safe zones for collarless coats are either neutrals or solid. However, if you are feeling bold, feel free to experiment with vivacious prints or fabrics with eloquent designs.
