Urban Dictionary defines a guy’s girl as “That great girl who can just chill and be 'one of the guys'. She's into sports, beer, action flicks and doesn't give a damn what others think. However, unlike the tomboy, she has her gang of girl mates who she shops with and does girly stuff.” Spot on.
While guy’s girls might dress just as feminine as girly girl’s, it didn’t take us two hours to get ready to go out. Seriously what are you doing for two hours? I can watch at least three episodes of Parks and Rec in almost half that amount of time. Guy’s girls don’t get overly disgusted when hanging out with a group of guys talking about sex or “hot” girls. They don’t get disgusted when guys talk about farting or eat gross foods in front of them, either.
Living in a sorority house there is a lack of men around, obviously. I do not believe girls when they say things like, “girls are too much drama, I get along with guys better.” Let’s be real, you are always going to need girl friends. But sometimes it is comforting having laid back conversations about seemingly stupid but funny things.
There is no secret to being a guy’s girl. It doesn’t take special qualities that Cosmo convinces you to need. It just so happens that I would rather actually watch the football or basketball game instead of just posting the game day Instagram. My favorite portrayal of a guy’s girl is PJ from the show My Boys. She’s a sports journalist in Chicago who enjoys weekly poker games with her “boys,” her brother and best guy friends.
Trust me, guy’s girls can still rock the pair of heels and dress any day of the week. They will still watching Pretty Little Liars and quote Mean Girls. They can also shot gun a beer, reenact Star Wars and know how to change the flat tire on her car. The thing about being a guy’s girl is not trying to be one, just simply having the laid back and less-than-girly attitude about life.
