So this is it. This is the year we've looked forward to for our whole lives. These were the moments that we were supposed to remember forever. Our last walk through the halls, last calculus test, last time laughing at lunch with our closest friends. We should be celebrating this year with a baccalaureate ceremony, senior sunset gathering, project graduation night, senior nights, and the list goes on. There are so many things that were SUPPOSED to happen, things that bring closure to this year of lasts, things that were robbed from the class of 2020.
Since the "Stay at Home" order was put in place, we've all watched our hopes and dreams of having a semi normal end to our senior year slowly fade from view. In the beginning, we were supposed to go back to school by the end of April. Then it was pushed to May. Finally, it was completely canceled, leaving each and every senior longing for just one more day, one more practice, one more game.
Not only are the seniors deeply emotionally wounded by this abrupt ending, parents of seniors are also having a tough time accepting the news, and rightfully so. They have been robbed of one of the most proud-parent moments of their lives. Any person scrolling through Facebook can plainly see (or read about) the pain and emotional turmoil that these parents are feeling.
What can we do now that the coronavirus has stolen our year? We move on. No, we will never have the chance to watch another Friday night football game, cheering on our hometown boys. We will never play Quizlet Live or Kahoot! with our classes again to study for tests again. We will never sit and gossip with our favorite teachers during class or cheer on our baseball team during the district championship. Thinking back on all of our lasts stings like salt in a wound. However, as painful as it may be, the truth is that it's over. There's nothing we can do to fix it or bring it back. This year is over, and it is time to move on.
Sincerely,
A fellow heartbroken senior❤️
