Ah, the 90s. The decade most of us were born and grew up in. The years when you’d turn the TV on and see sitcoms like "Friends" or "Seinfeld" or cartoons like "The Simpsons" or "Rugrats," the years when female pop artists like Britney Spears and boy bands like N'Sync were thriving, and the pre-twerking years when the most popular dance move was the Macarena. The decade we sung along to one-hit wonders like “Ice Ice Baby,” “I’m Too Sexy,” “Baby Got Back,” and “Mambo No. 5,” consumed nutritious meals of Dunkaroos and Tang, and felt heartbroken when Brad and Jennifer broke-up.
There’s plenty to love about the 90s, but one of the best things to love is the fashion. It caused a huge shift in our western world and the way we viewed fashion. Tattoos and body piercings in other places than ears were becoming widely more common and accepted. The most popular fashion style of the 90s was grunge and alternative styles that were all about not conforming to the mainstream fashion trends.
The past year, I’ve noticed several trends that I used to sport as a child becoming increasingly more popular. I’d like to think that now that us 90s kids are all grown up, we don’t understand why these trends ever went out of style to begin with and we want them back. Here are some trends you may have forgotten about that are, luckily, back in style once again.
1. Choker Necklaces
Yes, that necklace you wore for three years straight as a child is back in style.
2. Combat Boots
3. Crop Tops
4. Leather Biker Jacket
5. Jelly Sandals
6. Platform Shoes
Short girls rejoice!
7. Flannels
Who knew the button up you "borrowed" from bae would double as a trendy top?
8. Tying Flannels Around Waist
Remember when you would get warm, shed a layer, and have to carry it around the rest of the day because you knew tying it around your waist would be mock worthy? You don't have to be afraid any longer! Tying a flannel around your waist can be used as an fashionable accessory nowadays.
9. Bright Hair Colors
The more outlandish the better.
10. High-Waisted Everything
All praise the mom jeans! This look is cute, goes with almost everything, and makes your legs look like they go on for days. (Just be sure to be camel-toe conscious.)
11. Fanny Packs

12. Round Sunglasses
They're not just for Ozzy anymore!
13. Baggy, Holy Jeans
We know it doesn't really make sense to buy jeans that already have large holes in them, but you know we're going to continue doing it anyway.
14. Color Blocking
This works great with complimentary colors, just PLEASE stay away from color blocking orange and blue or people may think you're attending the wrong Idaho school..
15. Septum Piercings
Infinitely jealous of girls that can pull this off and have the pain tolerance to get it done.
16. Oversized Knit Sweaters
17. Birkenstocks
They give off a slight "grandpa who always has trail mix in his pocket" vibe, but they're cute and comfy so who cares.
18. Calvin Klein
If $30 underwear is your thing.
19. Overalls
One downfall: when you have to pee.
20. Black Tights Under Shorts
Allows us to be able to wear our high waisted mom jean shorts in the winter months too, so how could we go wrong with that?
Polos, denim suits, fedoras, and frosted tips, unfortunately, are still not in. Sorry JT.
