Most students choose their college major based upon their interests. Those who enjoy science, math, or music, for instance, will likely choose a degree related to those fields. So it is with those who major in English, and, as with any major, there are specific qualities and experiences that most every English major shares.

1. You love books

An obvious statement, but a true one nevertheless. Books and stories are a significant part of your life, and you can think of nothing better than a major that involves reading them on a daily basis.

2. You enjoy writing essays

Because one of the best feelings in the world is being able to organize your thoughts into essay form and to construct a strong argument.

3. You are argumentative

Once you take a stance, you will defend it by all means necessary, even if that means countless hours of research and thought.

4. You are very particular about grammar

You may not correct people's grammar aloud, but silently? Absolutely.

5. The library is your second home

You do most of your work in the library and even have a specific spot where you always sit. You enjoy being surrounding by books and are able to concentrate best there.

6. You have a tendency to procrastinate

Especially when it comes to writing essays (even if you do love writing them).

7. You own way too many anthologies

American literature anthology, British literature anthology, anthology of the best literature of all time -- all these anthologies can be found either stacked neatly in your room or stuffed into your too-small backpack.

8. You analyze everything

And by everything, you mean everything. Movies, television shows, bulletin boards, and signs -- you will try to find hidden meaning whether there is any there or not.

9. You constantly have to remind yourself that your interpretation is not the only valid interpretation

Due to the nature of literature and the fact that many of the authors studied are no longer around to tell scholars the true intent behind their writing, there are many ways that one can interpret a piece of literature. This can cause confusion, especially between you and another who may interpret things differently.

10. People always assume you want to be a teacher

While many English majors do wish to teach in a traditional classroom setting, not all plan to go that route. There are hundreds of other positions you can hold with a degree in English, and all are just as valid as teaching.

Earning a degree in English is not all fun and games. Yes, you get to read books and have fun doing so, but you are also required to write multiple-page essays, do grueling amounts of research, and learn how to communicate effectively as a writer and orator. An English degree is not for the faint at heart, but it is still a joy.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
