Nine Ways College Changes You

College is a wonderful time to discover yourself. You change a lot through out your time at your university of choice. During this period of change, you may find yourself changing in ways that are maybe not for the best. Have no fear, we're all in this together.

1. You begin to accept that Thursday's are part of the weekend.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are no longer the weekend anymore unless Thursday is included. Regardless of our classes on Friday’s, we somehow always manage to make it out on Thursday nights.

2. You tell yourself Ramen/Easy Mac are sufficient meals.

Whether we are sick of the dining halls, cooking, or are just straight up lazy - we’ve all managed to convince ourselves that Ramen and Easy Mac are an acceptable meal. Sadly, neither are healthy and both are delicious.

3. You've trained yourself to pull all-nighters in worse case scenarios.

We’ve all been there; and it’s certainly not a good idea. Procrastination in college becomes second nature to us. When there’s work to be done, all-nighters are very possible.

4. Getting up any earlier than 10 feels like a death sentence.

For whatever reason, no matter how late we sleep in it still won’t feel like quite enough. Days that we are able to sleep in are the very best. We will forever be confused as to how we woke ourselves up before seven for high school.

5. You've figured out how to get yourself ready for class in record breaking time.

We learn to get timing down to a science. If it takes approximately four minutes to walk to class, you can get up 10 minutes before class starts. We turn the process of getting ready into a race for time.

6. You need coffee to get through the day.

We swore we wouldn’t get addicted to it but it’s just not possible to survive a day of lectures without it. We all have our go-to spots on campus and we all live for caffeine. It may be an unhealthy addiction but it certainly never disappoints.

7. Sunday's are dedicated strictly to getting your work done.

Sunday; the day of the week where your responsibilities finally hit you. We don’t ever make plans for Sunday knowing how much needs to get done. It becomes our day to get our lives together, and remember the real reason we are at college.

8. You just can't get through some days without taking naps.

We probably nap more than we did as children in college. No matter the time of day, if there’s time for a nap we will fit one in. They’re crucial to getting through the work week.

9. You tell yourself walking to class is adequate exercise for the day.

We’ve all made excuses; trying to go to the gym in college is not easy. There are some days where we are just drained and way too busy. Therefore, if you even got out of bed and walked to class, it’ll do for your daily dose of “exercise”.

Let’s face it; college turns us into REAL adults and teaches us many positive life-lessons that we will hold with us forever. It makes us better individuals, and helps us achieve our lifelong dreams. It is truly the "best four years" of our lives. But, while we’re here, it definitely changes us for the worst too. There are just some things we simply cannot avoid. Hopefully after four years we break these habits.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
