As many of my close friends know, I am pretty addicted to the PC version of Sims 4. I have played and been obsessed with this game since the very first Sims 1 CD-ROM came out in 2000. I have built countless homes, towns, and little Sim lives throughout the last fifteen years. Even though it's virtual, and I may sound crazy when I say this, I love being able to have that kind of control. It's exhilarating. Above all, I am addicted to Sims because after a hard day...living life as a Sim seems pretty sweet. Being an animated human simulation with limited free will may have it's downfalls, but there are some outstanding ways in which being a Sim is way better than being a human.
1. Make all the monies! Have all the things!
OK, so I might as well spill it now...I'm a cheater. I use cheat codes to buy awesome things and build incredible mansions. But
With all that money, you could buy yourself the coolest technology (like a giant rocket ship to casually chill in your backyard), the best appliances (with an exclusive 'unbreakable' feature), and SO. MUCH. MORE. Can you say gluttony?! My Sims sure can!
2. Teleport anywhere, anytime in an instant.
There are so many things in life that would be easier with teleportation. For example: No more traffic. Ever. Think about it. But seriously, defying the realms of the physical world and zapping to any location that you desire seems pretty amazing to me. Oh, you're hungry? But you're also too lazy to walk downstairs to the kitchen? That's fine, just teleport yourself there. Boom. As a Sim, you now have a delicious snack and an amazing superpower. Are you convinced yet?
3. Get fit fast!
Imagine getting up every morning for five short days (Sim days are equivalent to maybe 10-20 minutes real time) and running on the treadmill for an hour. Maybe not your thing? Well, what if doing that instantly resulted in the body of a swimsuit model? Yep, now we're talking. It literally takes a few days of exercising for your average Sim to get fit. And, the results last for basically forever. That sounds like paradise to me.
4. Easily make friends and find love.
As a Sim, you can potentially meet a person, go on a date, and get married all in the same day. It doesn't even matter how compatible you are, somehow all sims can find deep, undying, romantic love with practically any other Sim. The same thing goes for making friends. You can meet someone, and a few short hours later become best friends forever. To live in
5. Be amazingly skilled at everything.
Have you always wanted to be a piano prodigy? Paint masterpieces? Write best-selling screenplays? Have you ever wanted to be a comedian, a famous chef, a gardener, scientist, astronaut, or detective? As a Sim, you can be anything you want to be, and you can also learn like a bazillion skills. Spend a few hours at a wood-working table and suddenly you can create bar stools for your home. Yearning to become a rock star? OK, play your guitar for an hour and you'll be on your way to stardom! You can even be skilled at things like "Mischief," which is super fun for pulling awesome pranks on your Sim family. You can be a jack of all trades or a master at a few! I mean, think of the possibilities of being a master at gourmet cooking and rocket science. Too. Cool.
6. Change your appearance and wardrobe at no cost!
In the Sim world, you can have a totally different hair color and style every single day. You can change your hair,
7. Have constant achievements in your career!
Are you just dying for a promotion at work? Do you really need a raise or a bonus? No fear! Just increase your skill levels by a teensy bit, go to work in a good mood, work hard, and you are pretty much guaranteed a promotion! Oh, plus, you get to pursue a career in basically anything you can imagine. Want to be a professional criminal? Well, then the Sim world is for you!
8. Never be confused about your feelings.
Do you ever have those days as a human where you are sad, or anxious, or upset, or wistful, or a combination of a bunch of emotions without an understandable origin?
9. Have complete control over time.
Being able to control time is by far the best feature of Sim life. Do you need to take a second to just get yourself together and assess what needs to be done today? That's fine, just hit "pause" while you assign yourself tasks like "take a shower," then "cook scrambled eggs," then "do homework." After that, you can hit play, sit back, and let the productivity unfold. You can also fast-forward through boring events, like actually doing homework, being at school, and sleeping. Fast-forward through school?! Does it get any better than that? Oh yeah, and don't forget about how you can turn back time. Well, by purchasing the "Potion of Youth," of course. You could be in your 20's forever if you wanted to...
Well, I've convinced myself! I'm off to live in SimCity and "motherlode" my way through life. Feel free to visit me when I am a World-Renowned Surgeon living in the biggest mansion you have ever seen!
Bye, bye! Or, as they would say in Simlish, "Dag Dag!"
