9 Things You Miss About USC Over The Summer
Daily Trojan

School is out, and for many of us, and that means going home for the summer. Being home is great, but those of us who go to the best school in the world (USC, obviously) start missing it pretty quickly. Here’s what we miss the most:

1. The people

You miss being surrounded by a bunch of super smart people who come from so any different places. And the best part? Many of them have just as much school spirit as you do.

2. The food

Los Angeles has the best food. Period. No matter what kind of food you want, you can probably find it by just driving a few minutes downtown.

3. Amazebowls

To be more specific, you miss Amazebowls…aka the best acai bowls on the planet. Even though having an Amazebowls truck on campus can be dangerous for your wallet, we all know it’s worth it.

4. The weather

There’s nothing better than walking down Trousdale on a sunny day. The weather is almost always perfect in LA, and you can’t say the same for your hometown.

5. Gamedays

Putting on your song girl skirt and getting ready to rally is the best part of every Saturday in the fall. The good news is that we’re less than 3 months away!

6. The Fight Song

Speaking of game days, we all miss hearing the fight song. As cheesy as it sounds, this song has become one of you favorites. You miss the immediate joy you feel every time you hear the band playing it.

7. Nightlife

Okay, let’s face it…USC doesn’t have the best nightlife in the world. But LA does! We all miss having so many places to go out to on a Friday/Saturday night. At home, staying in and watching Netflix on the weekends is a common occurrence.

8. Fruber

We’re all thinking it: free Uber is one of the best things our USC tuition pays for. You quickly realized that having to drive everywhere at home is not as fun as you remembered.

9. The classes

You may not miss the homework, but just admit it…you miss at least some of your classes. USC has so many amazing classes with interesting subjects and world-renowned professors. How could you not miss that?!

Thank you, USC, for giving us a home away from home.

We can’t wait to be back in the fall!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
