People are always trying to find their home. Whether they're concerned with making their way back, finding a new one, buying, renting, selling— whatever it may be, people are always talking about it. But I think most people look at home as more than just a place to stay. Home is a feeling, a person or a state of mind. Based on my short eighteen years of research, here are nine examples I've gathered about what "home" means:
1. Home is the feeling you get when you burrow into your bed after a long day. You feel warm, you feel safe, you feel calm.
2. Home is a book you've read so many times the characters feel like your friends. The events in the story feel as though they've happened to you and the words printed in black ink are like fond childhood memories.
3. Home is the feeling you get when you turn onto the street you've lived your whole life after a road trip. You feel relief, because even after going out and having fun, there's only one place you want to be at the end of the night.
4. Home is greasy pizza, reminding you of the slumber parties, in school pizza parties, and late nights watching movies with your friends and family. The things that seem small but always manage to stick with you.
5. Home is a town where you walk through the streets and you feel your heart beating as one with the hundreds or millions of people walking around you and mulling around to each find their own homes.
6. Home is dark roast coffee that opens your eyes to the beauty of the coming day and warms you up on a cold morning. It is strong, like it can hold you up when you can't hold yourself. It warms your chest and makes your organs feel soft.
7. Home is the first notes of the theme song of your favorite show. It's familiar but always exciting. Even though the events in the show change, the song remains the same.
8. Home is sweatpants. Comfortable and roomy, and always your go to at the end of a long day. Also, it's possible that you actually do live in sweatpants, making them your home on a whole-nother level.
9. Home is the eyes of the people you love when they smile. You feel genuine joy that comes along with the knowledge that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
