.) When choosing a vacation destination keep in mind how far away it is so you can budget your gas accordingly; in addition make sure your car has had routine maintenance and is ready for a road trip . If you are flying, make sure you have arrangements to get picked up/dropped off at the airport or have checked into rental cars.
.) Once the destination is picked, make sure you taken off work and made arrangements so your house, pets, and any other engagements are being taken care of. Nobody would want to come home from a nice vacation to see that their cat ran away and the plants died.
.) Create a checklist when packing to ensure you didn't forget anything. Make sure the laundry, dishes, bills, etc. are taken care of before you leave. It is much more comforting to come home to a clean house after a relaxing vacation.
.) For an easier check in to your resort/condo/cabin/etc, make sure you have any paperwork filled out before hand and you have your confirmation number. Doing these things before you reach your destination will allow for a quicker check in process.
.) If you are traveling with friends, be sure to have a conversation before hand to discuss how you will be splitting up costs (for the room, gas, food, etc.). This way you'll be able to enjoy your time with your friends and vacation without having to worry about how to split up costs or even creating possible arguments among friends
.) If your place of stay has a kitchen available, consider making some of your own meals to save some money. While planning the trip, research local grocery stores and restaurants near your vacation destination.
.) Sign up for apps like Living Social and Groupon to find daily deals on various entertainment in restaurants in your vacation area. Also, see if your resort provides specials or even coupon books to help save money while on vacation.
.) Don't over pack! You may think you need 12 different outfits for a seven day vacation, but the last thing you want to do is try to cram the car full when you head down there and not have any room for souvenirs when you come back. If your place of stay has amenities like laundry take advantage so you can pack lighter and not have to worry about coming home with dirty clothes.
.) Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!! This is a vacation after all! Don't stress the small things while on vacation. Enjoy this time to relax and rejuvenate your mind, you earned this trip!
