Breakups never get easier, even if you're walking away from a toxic relationship. When you invest your heart, time, and energy to be with someone, your life naturally changes.

When you walk away from it, what was once normal together, is now abnormal alone. What was fun to do together, is now heart-wrenching to do alone. The music or shows you were interested in together, are now the entertainments that you avoid most.

Breakups are difficult because two became one, and life appeared a little bit easier. Now your heart has been torn into two pieces, and you have to figure out how to move forward with the soreness.

Whether you ended on good terms or bad, there are certain aspects that are difficult to heal from. Even if you do not miss the person themselves, you might begin to miss certain things you did together. These are the nine hardest things to overcome after a breakup.

1. The small things that made you laugh

Like the way she would dance in front of the television or the way he would randomly tickle you to make you smile.

2. The late-night calls or texts just because

“Just missing you a little extra tonight.”

3. The way you memorized their order at all fast food restaurants

“I’ll take two… I mean one.”

4. The sound of their voice when you're feeling down

There is no denying that when someone is your go-to person for comfort, the next time you get down in the slumps, all you want to hear is the sound of their voice.

5. The “norms” you created together

Like getting ice-cream on Tuesdays, watching “Prison Break” on Thursdays, or cheering for your favorite NFL team together on Sundays.

6. Their presence

They became your comfort zone. Now, suddenly watching television feels lonely because they aren't sitting right next to you anymore.

7. Their family

Depending on how long you dated, their family became an extension of your own. This means that you didn’t just lose your boyfriend/girlfriend, you lost a family, and that stings a little bit.

8. Your inside jokes and small voices you used with each other

The voices that made you laugh were something unique to the relationship. Now that you are broken up, these voices are muted. It's sad to know that you may never hear it again, or at least not in the same way.

9. The good memories

Regardless of how things ended, you created great memories together. The great memories are ones you don’t want to forget. Nobody does. And, you don’t have to.

Take the great memories and be glad they happened. Engulf yourself in the joy of that moment, and recreate that emotion alone.

You do not need another person to complete you. You only think that because you have been living with someone for so long. You are complete as you are. You can fall in love with yourself, and you are enough.

You did nothing wrong. You did the right thing. You are incredible and this is making you stronger.

You are single, but that doesn’t mean you have to rush into another relationship, It means you now have more time to invest into your relationship with yourself.

Date yourself. You might be surprised at how great the memories you can make with yourself are.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
