9 Things You Experience With A Late Spring Break

Too Short. Too Sweet.

9 Things You Experience With A Late Spring Break
The G Brief

One of the bad things about college is that not everyone's spring break lines up at the same time. Sometimes things get hard throughout the weeks leading up, and you end up wishing for home.

Here are nine consequences of having a later spring break.

1. Warm Weather

Nothing beats setting out an ENO and relaxing away the afternoon in wonderful weather. But wait, you have a research paper to write. That involves Internet, which isn't outside your dorm. You feel the outdoors laughing at you as you turn around and sit at your desk.

2. Paleness

Winter might bring white snow, but it brings pale skin too. Nothing is worse than seeing your friends with a tan while you're still using your winter makeup.

3. That One Class

There's always one teacher that refuses to cancel class or gives a test the day before break. With just one class between you and vacation...you start looking through your attendance to see if you have that one skip.

4. Cafeteria Food

The cafeteria orders are getting low, and you're stuck with whatever is still in the pantry. But your friends are getting restaurant food and home cooked meals, so you're a little bitter about it (just like the food you're eating).

5. Lack of Short Things

Short sleeves. Shorts. Short skirts. Short pants. Short anything. Winter was just yesterday, and long sleeves and sweaters are only making me sweat, but not in a good way.

6. Lack of Vacations

Easter is right in the middle of spring break, and that's an obligated church day. You just can't miss it. So you have to be home in the middle of spring break, not on vacation in Cancun or Panama City, when you are spending the day with Jesus! So, usually no luxury vacations for you.

7. Wednesdays Are Stupid

Our school likes to deprive their students of extra breaks. Wednesday to Wednesday? Couldn't we have two weekends? Is that so hard?

8. Instagram Posts

All of your friends are posting pictures of Cabo, Key West, or some other tropical place while you are posting the large coffee to get you through the night and cries for help.

9. Not Seeing Friends

The worst part about having a different spring break than your friends is that you don't actually get to see them. By the time you're home, they're all back at school or on some awesome cruise that they started a week earlier.

But even if your spring break is late and you don't get to spend it with your friends, take the opportunity to spend time with your family and yourself and maybe make some new friends. It's still a break from school, and it only lasts a week. Savor it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
