Thanksgiving...the holiday that people either skip over to decorate for Christmas or the one where we all overindulge in the plentiful amounts of food. It's a time for being thankful for what we have, and for spending it with family and friends. Now that Black Friday sales start the night of Thanksgiving, people also trample others for goods mere hours after being thankful for what they already have. Thanksgiving seems to be like the poor, misunderstood middle child, but thankfully some of us actually appreciate and enjoy it. There are many common things about the holiday that we all relate to.
1. Over Eating
This is an obvious one, but it's one we can all relate to.
2. Nagging Family Questions
"Are you seeing anyone? Why aren't you? How is school? What exactly do you want to do with your major again? What kind of job will that degree get you? Do you want to marry anyone? Do you want kids?" Does this sound familiar? It probably does.
3. Sitting at the Kids Table...Even Though You're in College
Sure, you sat there when you were a child, no big deal. Now that you're a young adult, you don't want to be stuck with the toddlers and elementary kids. Yes, you love your younger relatives, but you want to sit in with the adults and contribute to the conversation and discuss adult topics. It's hard to talk with kids about certain things.
4. Controversial Table Discussions
If you are lucky enough to sit with the adults, you'll hear some controversial conversation topics. This will be heightened this year due to the election. No matter your beliefs or who you voted for, it will be hard to stay out of it.
5. That One Relative
This could apply to anyone for any reason. It could be your crazy aunt, your uncle who drinks too much, the one cousin who is obnoxiously loud, or the overly political grandparent. We ALL have that one relative....and it makes Thanksgiving interesting.
6. The Fun Cousins
They are your favorite part of any family gathering. They make it more fun, and it gives you someone to goof around with. It's even better if they're closer to your age.
7. Being Ready to Go Home
After being around people all day, enough is enough. You're ready to leave, but your mom won't quit socializing. You're still there, even though she said "we are leaving" an hour ago.
8. Eating While Surrounded by Christmas Decorations
I'm not one for premature Christmas decorating, but many do it. Some even put it up around Thanksgiving, so it's not uncommon for people to eat turkey...while surrounded by Christmas crap in November.
9. Being With Family
This is the most important one. Even though family can be crazy and annoying, we still love them. That's what the holidays are all about, spending time with those you love, blood or not.
