9 Things We Miss About Our College Friends Over The Summer
Savannah Thomas

Going away to college and being forced to live in a dorm your first year isn't all that bad. Sure, the air conditioning sometimes doesn't work (or all the time), the walk to class is no fun, and your noisy neighbors never help. But, when you meet amazing friends that live in dorms near you, it makes the experience so much better. These are the things that we miss about our college friends over the summer.

1. Movie Nights.

Dorm room movie nights are the best. We all pile onto one bed, into the floor, and onto random pieces of furniture just so that we can all watch a movie together and enjoy each other's company. There's always someone who brings the snacks and pizza, and there's usually a few people doing homework during the movie, but it's all worth it.

2. Going To Sporting Events Together.

Whether you be in the marching band with your best friends and go to every home football game together (like me), or you attend in the student section because you love sports, your friends and fellow classmates are right there with you to help cheer your team on (and call the refs out).

3. Eating Together. All. The. Time.

All you have to do is text your friend, "Lunch at 12:45?" and you know they'll be there in your favorite dining hall waiting on you. It's just a thing that all college friends are aware of at this point. You always have that one good friend that will eat with you every single day.

4. Battling Public Transportation With Them.

There is no one else in the world that you would rather stuff yourself like a sardine on a bus at 8:00 am with. They're always there to catch you when you inevitably have to stand on the bus, and the driver decides to brake really hard.

5. Late Night Food Runs.

Everyone is aware of the spots on campus that are open 24 hours, so you make sure to make midnight snack runs when you and your friends stay up late.

6. Study Groups.

No classmate study group will ever make a better support system than your best friends. Friend study groups are where it's at. They keep you motivated while also keeping you laughing.

7. Fun On (And Off) Campus Adventures.

With your college best friends, you all know the best places around town to adventure and discover new things. This is why these friends are the best to take on campus adventures. Everyone has their own knowledge of the area and will bring new and fun things to the table each time.

8. That One Friend That Braids Your Hair.

I know this is oddly specific, but we all have that one friend that can do something special that you personally can't. Like, braiding hair. Over the summer, you'll miss the fact that you can't just go a couple rooms away and get your hair braided by your friend.

9. Venting/Breakdown Sessions.

Admit it: we have all met that one person at college that keeps us sane. It's hard to spend the entire summer away from them knowing that you won't be able to cry into your pillow with them when life gets hard.

All college friends have seen you at your first-day-of-class highs and your only-had-two-hours-of-sleep-and-running-on-caffeine lows, and they choose to love you anyway. That's friendship if I've ever seen it.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
