All the time, people think that all homeschoolers are alike. I don't know about you, but I am tired of hearing the same things over and over again. These are just a few things that you are probably tired of hearing, if you're a homeschooler.
1. "Do you even do school?"
Sometimes I want to smack people when they ask this question, other times, this question is actually valid. I understand that some parents are not "academically strict", but YES! I DO SCHOOL! How do you think I move up a grade each year!?!?!
2. "Do you have social skills?"
"Ummmmmm......Well, you see.... "
I know that some homeschoolers don't have social skills, but if your asking me that questions, it means that I am talking to you. If I am talking to you, that means that I have SOME social skills. Looks like somebody needs to work on being more observant, just saying. :)
3. "If you're a homeschooler, then why aren't you wearing long jean skirts and pigtails?"
Are you kidding me? Look at me? All of "us" are not like the Duggars (don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching the Duggars on TV)!
4. "You just get to wear pajamas all day, right?"
My response to this question has always been, "Pssh, no! My mom makes me get up everyday, get dressed, and get ready for the day." In actuality, most days I do stay in my pajamas! :)
5. "Do you get even snow days?"
No, we don't. We don't have to go anywhere for school, so we just continue to do school. I wish I got snow days, though.
6. "Homeschoolers are SO lucky, they don't have to do any homework."
I'm sorry, but did you really just say that? I do all of my school at home, therefore all of my school is "homework". So yes, homeschoolers do homework.
7. "If you're a homeschooler, you must be sheltered...right?"
I don't live under a rock. I have seen movies and I do listen to music. Why does everybody think that if you are a homeschooler, you never leave the house?
8. When it's the middle of the day, and someone asks: "Why aren't you in school?"
Okay, this is actually makes sense. I can totally understand it when you are out in public and someone asks this, however.... it does get old getting asked this question. I get asked this question all the time.
9. "So, do you homeschool through college?"
Really? No! I don't even think you can do that. I will go to college, just like most people.
I know sometimes homeschoolers can be weird, but we are not all the same. We are normal people. We do school, and we are not all lazy. If you are homeschooler, I am sure that some of these "common miss-beliefs" hit a little close to home. These are just 9 things homeschoolers are tired of hearing.
