9 Things Homeschoolers Are Tired Of Hearing
TLC

All the time, people think that all homeschoolers are alike. I don't know about you, but I am tired of hearing the same things over and over again. These are just a few things that you are probably tired of hearing, if you're a homeschooler.

1. "Do you even do school?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F18%2F636070807530595787-175836930_Obviously.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=438&h=f4f56f86495993b2714c1d7aa738ee3f43178ac7d992416e7558ad1b36c7419d&size=980x&c=1730713299 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F18%252F636070807530595787-175836930_Obviously.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D438%26h%3Df4f56f86495993b2714c1d7aa738ee3f43178ac7d992416e7558ad1b36c7419d%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1730713299%22%7D" expand=1]

Sometimes I want to smack people when they ask this question, other times, this question is actually valid. I understand that some parents are not "academically strict", but YES! I DO SCHOOL! How do you think I move up a grade each year!?!?!

2. "Do you have social skills?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F18%2F636070810292799786-1578511074_Social%2520skills.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=283&h=2ac6d5dc4b039a5e89b48921d7eaf4ef9b92ca3632ecbaf43054fb57b39b330a&size=980x&c=636920166 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F18%252F636070810292799786-1578511074_Social%252520skills.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D283%26h%3D2ac6d5dc4b039a5e89b48921d7eaf4ef9b92ca3632ecbaf43054fb57b39b330a%26size%3D980x%26c%3D636920166%22%7D" expand=1]

"Ummmmmm......Well, you see.... "

I know that some homeschoolers don't have social skills, but if your asking me that questions, it means that I am talking to you. If I am talking to you, that means that I have SOME social skills. Looks like somebody needs to work on being more observant, just saying. :)

3. "If you're a homeschooler, then why aren't you wearing long jean skirts and pigtails?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F18%2F636070816605999289-815647036_Eye%2520roll.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=834&h=12d5922a61eed2d940b81aa86d8374c884039160e0b30cbad7249eab0852c26c&size=980x&c=2652250480 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F18%252F636070816605999289-815647036_Eye%252520roll.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D834%26h%3D12d5922a61eed2d940b81aa86d8374c884039160e0b30cbad7249eab0852c26c%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2652250480%22%7D" expand=1]

Are you kidding me? Look at me? All of "us" are not like the Duggars (don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching the Duggars on TV)!

4. "You just get to wear pajamas all day, right?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F18%2F6360708211863849622050991244_STANLEY.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=921&h=bfc09f41fed117c56996fc7c20cecb3a30efdf2249c76d98ef34d71bf40c0547&size=980x&c=1549749939 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F18%252F6360708211863849622050991244_STANLEY.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D921%26h%3Dbfc09f41fed117c56996fc7c20cecb3a30efdf2249c76d98ef34d71bf40c0547%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1549749939%22%7D" expand=1]

My response to this question has always been, "Pssh, no! My mom makes me get up everyday, get dressed, and get ready for the day." In actuality, most days I do stay in my pajamas! :)

5. "Do you get even snow days?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F18%2F636070826957776811-1994633148_NO%2520NO%2520NO.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=19&h=b979d67083b0b442930d4f6cf924e51b04981c65332d592206e415b9b7b571b9&size=980x&c=2607587871 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F18%252F636070826957776811-1994633148_NO%252520NO%252520NO.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D19%26h%3Db979d67083b0b442930d4f6cf924e51b04981c65332d592206e415b9b7b571b9%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2607587871%22%7D" expand=1]

No, we don't. We don't have to go anywhere for school, so we just continue to do school. I wish I got snow days, though.

6. "Homeschoolers are SO lucky, they don't have to do any homework."

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F18%2F6360708322940988011729705900_KEVIN.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=321&h=f67f4ee5f1376fb0fdce25cfcc2ecf3ca98fcd9bab01e073a72c4870302e9a57&size=980x&c=3073131944 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F18%252F6360708322940988011729705900_KEVIN.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D321%26h%3Df67f4ee5f1376fb0fdce25cfcc2ecf3ca98fcd9bab01e073a72c4870302e9a57%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3073131944%22%7D" expand=1]

I'm sorry, but did you really just say that? I do all of my school at home, therefore all of my school is "homework". So yes, homeschoolers do homework.

7. "If you're a homeschooler, you must be sheltered...right?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F18%2F6360708331707591651425879447_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=659&h=67434980634257eb2a7a6358b39f46c76815996fdedcec1e444ed9dfd08a33bb&size=980x&c=3753692715 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F18%252F6360708331707591651425879447_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D659%26h%3D67434980634257eb2a7a6358b39f46c76815996fdedcec1e444ed9dfd08a33bb%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3753692715%22%7D" expand=1]

I don't live under a rock. I have seen movies and I do listen to music. Why does everybody think that if you are a homeschooler, you never leave the house?

8. When it's the middle of the day, and someone asks: "Why aren't you in school?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F19%2F636072235890446988-1773197770_Ughhhh.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=229&h=b836a04fb8728d9a155300bc6dcfecb1c9a1c0be4b40ab10af321a98718ff05b&size=980x&c=1601415891 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F19%252F636072235890446988-1773197770_Ughhhh.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D229%26h%3Db836a04fb8728d9a155300bc6dcfecb1c9a1c0be4b40ab10af321a98718ff05b%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1601415891%22%7D" expand=1]

Okay, this is actually makes sense. I can totally understand it when you are out in public and someone asks this, however.... it does get old getting asked this question. I get asked this question all the time.

9. "So, do you homeschool through college?"

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F08%2F19%2F636072237389721584-1165298456_Ugh%2520Simon%2520Cowell.gif-c200&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=623&h=67418be8283c444ed4ed4d174b5c23fd143b7daee568d3fe6751de151bf60bfe&size=980x&c=3955991492 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F08%252F19%252F636072237389721584-1165298456_Ugh%252520Simon%252520Cowell.gif-c200%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D623%26h%3D67418be8283c444ed4ed4d174b5c23fd143b7daee568d3fe6751de151bf60bfe%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3955991492%22%7D" expand=1]

Really? No! I don't even think you can do that. I will go to college, just like most people.

I know sometimes homeschoolers can be weird, but we are not all the same. We are normal people. We do school, and we are not all lazy. If you are homeschooler, I am sure that some of these "common miss-beliefs" hit a little close to home. These are just 9 things homeschoolers are tired of hearing.

Because self confidence is sexy

And as a woman, I want us all to love ourselves a little bit more today.

540

Women have such high standards to live up to today. We’re expected to do and be so much. The great Tina Fey said “Every girl is expected to have Caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall ass, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama, and doll tits. The person closest to actually achieving this look is Kim Kardashian, who, as we know, was made by Russian scientists to sabotage our athletes." This quote is not only hilarious, but also incredibly true! How many of you feel insecure every time you walk on campus, or every time you walk into a party? Even the girls you think are perfect are insecure. Everyone has flaws. Sure some flaws may be more exaggerated than others, but that doesn’t mean that the girl still feels bad about them. My point here is that it doesn’t matter how “perfect” you are, what matters most is how “perfect” you feel.

With the dawn of social media comes an entirely new character: the Facebook politician. Usually, articles or posts about politics are fairly sporadic. That is until a major event happens. Suddenly, everyone knows everything about everything. Everyone seems to have a very strong opinion. Everyone is super knowledgeable, and what better vessel of information than they themselves? Which is pretty reasonable, given that people’s emotions run high when something major happens. And I don’t blame them, emotions are good!

The Gift Of Basketball

The NBA playoffs remind me of my basketball journey through time

Syracuse Basketball

I remember that when I was very little, my dad played in an adult basketball league, and I remember cheering him on with everything in me. I also remember going to Tuscola basketball games when the old floor was still there and the bleachers were still wooden. I remember always wanting to play basketball like my dad, and that's just what I did.

Plus Size Appreciation: How I Learned To Love My Body

Because it is okay to not be "skinny."

In America, we tend to stick up our noses at certain things that aren't the norm. For example, people who are overweight, or the politically correct term “obese." Men and women who are overweight get so much backlash because they are not skinny or "in shape," especially, African-American women, who are typically known for having wider hips and thicker thighs. Robert Darryl, an African-American filmmaker, explains the overall intention of the body mass index in his follow-up sequel, “America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments."
