We are now transitioning into monsoon season here in Arizona.
It's the time we welcome the dusty, windy, and rainy weather that only seems to happen around this time. For other states, the hype seems to be strange and weird, but to Arizonans, rain is a short-lived delight that only comes around once a year.
Here are some things that happen when it rains in this dry and desert state.
1. Texts telling you that it's raining.
It's raining, and you can see the droplets pouring down; yet people still text you in all caps of excitement saying it's raining.
2. People act like they've never seen rain before.
But really, there are people that act like that.
3. People driving like a 3-year-old.
The minute the rain and wind hits every driver seems to forget how to drive.
4. Flooding
Literally everything is underwater after five seconds of rain. The freeways are completely submerged, roads blocked, and pools overflowing. There was even that one time where it rained so much in AZ, that people were actually swimming in the underwater parks.
5. People post pictures.
Well obviously you have to take a photo of the rain and let everyone know that it's raining because nobody has ever seen rain before -- totally logical.
6. The umbrellas get put to use.
The umbrellas we bought so many years ago that were forgotten in the closet are now useful! Time to pull them out so you don't get wet on your walk to the car. Don't forget to grab those rain boots and coat to use!
7. Nobody leaves their house.
This is the best time to go grocery shopping because literally everyone is afraid to leave their home. Rain is unknown to them, scary even.8. The rain playlists start.
Cue some John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, and other acoustic songs. Here is a playlist to start with.9. Dust storm warning alerts.
It's funny if you are in a large public place when it happens because each phone in the room will go off in sync.
