Searching For A New Show?

The 9 stages of finding your new favorite TV series.

Searching For A New Show?

The highly anticipated and slightly dreaded day has come – you’ve finally reached the end of your favorite TV series. You’re excited to find out how it will all wrap up, but also maybe a little bummed that it's over. After watching the last episode, perhaps you even feel a little void, and wonder what you’re going to do with all your spare time or if another TV show will ever live up to this one. Don’t fret; here’s the process of finding a new favorite show:

1. Take some time off

When you’ve just binge=-watched a series, when you finally finish you’ll most likely want to come up for some air. You’ll find other ways to spend your time and maybe read a book or watch one of your favorite movies before bed instead of cuing up Netflix.

2. Turn to your trusty back-up shows

Everyone has those shows you can put on whenever you’re bored that don’t take a lot of effort. You don’t need to follow a plot, you can jump right into any season, and after one or two episodes you’re good to turn it off. For me, this is "Law and Order: SVU," "Say Yes to the Dress" or really anything on HGTV, but to each their own.

3. Browse all possible sources of entertainment

You go from Netflix, to Amazon Prime, to Hulu, and back to Netflix, all without seeing anything that looks as promising as the series you just finished. You give up and and resolve to try again some other time.

4. Draw upon outside sources

Maybe your best friend loves this show, it showed up on your recommended list, or it won a ton of Emmys, so you think about giving it a try.

5. Test a couple out

You try a few shows before deciding one seems promising and you’ll continue with it.

6. Ease your way in

You watch an episode here or there, no strings attached.

7. Realize this could be “the one”

You were hesitant at first, but now you know that this could be your new favorite show.

8. Binge ‘til the end

This show has eight seasons? No problem. You like a challenge. Prepare to hibernate for a few weeks, just you and your laptop snuggled up in bed.

9. Lather, rinse, repeat

So you finished another great show – you know the drill: time to start all over.

Happy searching!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
