9 Signs You're The Younger Sibling
Paige Francis

Siblings hold a special bond that, quite honestly, can't be matched. They're the first best friend that you have in the world, and can also be the most special. However, like all relationships, siblings have their ups and downs. But let's be honest, that little sibling rivalry is what makes the relationship so special. I believe that being the younger sibling has its fair share of both advantages and disadvantages. Here are signs that you are, undoubtedly, the younger sibling:

1. You have to fight for a car to go out.

Your dad's always using his car, your mom uses hers, so what are you and your sibling left to use? Usually, there's a 3rd car in play, and that 3rd car *usually* belongs to the oldest child. That being said, batting your eyelashes can sometimes get you into that extra car real quick. After all, you've been planning this night out for a week right? Just be careful of the backlash from your older sibling. Don't be surprised if you find a rubber snake in your bed when you get home later that night.

2. You're all too comfy in the backseat.

It's a given that you never get the front seat unless it's only you and the driver in the car. Even calling "Shotgun!" at the top of your lungs is useless as one stiff-arm from your older brother will put you back in your place. You've come to love the little backseat kingdom you've grown up with, extra space and all.

3. Your childhood consisted of numerous playgrounds while your siblings played soccer.

One thing that all younger siblings have in common is the countless weekend sporting events you were dragged to every weekend. You were far too young to be left at home alone, but you always found a way to keep yourself entertained. You went to countless playgrounds and began to categorize them from best to worst. Oh, my older brother just scored 2 goals in a row? That's not nearly as impressive as me mastering those monkey bars.

4. You get everything a year early.

And it drives your older siblings crazy. Whether it's a shiny new Nintendo DS or your first cellphone, you tend to always get new technology a year sooner than your siblings got it. If they got their first phone when they were 15, you got it when you were 14, much to their dismay and declarations of unfairness. Point: younger siblings.

5. Your parents let you get away with more.

I like to think of it as "the little princess privilege." You can stay out later, stay home alone sooner, and just get away with more stuff in general. Again, this is much to the dismay of your older siblings as they've most definitely paved the way for you. Your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed bro, thanks for helping me out and prepping the parents for me, or being the guinea pig you might say.

6. You're constantly keeping score, and oddly you're always losing.

It's so weird, even though you make some good arguments, you can never seem to win. Your older siblings always, somehow, has 10 more made-up points than you, and they'll never let you forget it. No matter what you say, you're wrong, However, on that rare occasion when they actually give you that sought-after point, you feel completely indestructible.

7. You could probably teach a self-defense class.

You've had your fair share of physical altercations with your older siblings. Over the years, you've learned what moves work best as well as when to play defense instead of offense (my personal favorite is the armadillo surprise attack.) People seriously underestimate your physical strength until you say those magic words; "I have an older sibling."

8. You become insanely bored when your older sibling goes off to college.

The house just kind of feels empty. You suddenly miss the constant bickering and unmatched competition that comes with having an older sibling. You start to reminisce over the countless made up games you shared when you were younger and wish you could go back to those days. When they go off to college, the spotlight is shifted onto you, and you get an overwhelming amount of attention from your parents. When they go off to college, leaving you at home, a piece of you seems to be missing. Thankfully, though, you know you'll see them at the next holiday dinner.

9. You'll always have a protector.

I know that I can always count on my older brother to death glare at any guy who so much as breathes in my direction. They'll always run a thorough background check on any significant other who you bring home in order to make sure that they truly deserve you. That guy who broke your heart in high school? Yeah he's definitely on "the list."

I, personally, love being the younger sibling. I have someone who I know I can always count on to give the best advice and help me through life's most difficult moments. As much as they may get on your nerves or give you a hard time, older siblings want nothing but the best for you. They'll never admit it, but they enjoy the back-and-forth just as much as you do. They'll do everything in their power to protect you. You can always count on them, for anything, really. They really are a friend for life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
