8 Restaurants Incoming Longwood Freshman Need To Try During Their First Year As A Lancer

For all the wonderful individuals who have decided to call Longwood home this fall, there are several delicious, affordable restaurants that make the Longwood experience, the Longwood experience.

Although McDonald's, Moe's, and Chick fil A are right near campus, sometimes you will want something different. Additionally, there will be times when you've been to D-Hall five or six times and just really want something besides french fries, grilled cheese, and mashed potatoes.

In regard to the money situation, as a college student, you will be broke from time to time. However, many of the below restaurants, fortunately, accept Lancer Cash, a form of payment through Longwood and Bonus Dollars, or money that comes with your chosen meal plan. With that being said, below are eight restaurants incoming freshman must experience:

1. Fishin' Pig

Located about 10 minutes from Longwood, Fishin' Pig has the best BBQ in Farmville, VA. This restaurant is relatively cheap, has a rustic atmosphere, and various delicious options. Fishin' Pig also accepts Lancer Cash.


2. Macados

Here at Longwood, our Macados location has some of the best hamburgers you can find. The menu has an abundance of delicious options such as soups, salads, quesadillas, tacos, wraps, and desserts. It is the perfect place for you and group of new friends to try out on the weekends.

3. Charley's Waterfront Cafe

Okay, I will admit, this restaurant is a bit on the expensive side. However, located by the river, Charley's is the perfect place for you and your family to try when they visit you on the weekends. They are best known for their "Charley's Chicken Fingers."

4. Pino's

Pino's is an Italian chain restaurant located on Main Street. They have food ranging from pizza and spaghetti to subs, wraps, and salads. Pino's is a perfect restaurant for ordering take out and accepts Lancer Cash.

5. El Patron

El Patron, the sister restaurant to La Carretta located in Madison Heights,V a, has cheap, delicious Mexican food. El Patron is located off of Main Street and is the perfect place for you and your friends to try out on the weekends.

6. KJ Hibachi

Located directly behind Curry and Frazier, KJ Hibachi is a family-run restaurant that has delicious Japanese food. They also have various types of sushi. Although they do not accept Lancer Cash, you can get a meal for under 10 dollars. It's perfect for carryout, and the food is always cooked fresh.

7. Walker's Diner

Located on Main Street, Walkers Diner is a perfect spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your food is cooked when you order, and the workers are always friendly. Also, if you're a fan of a good Western, this is the perfect little restaurant or you.

8. Uptown Cafe

Also located on Main Street, Uptown Cafe has food ranging from pastries and coffees to subs, sandwiches, soups, and salads. Awesome atmosphere, good food, and, on Thursdays, Uptown Cafe has live music.They also accept Lancer Cash.


So, if you're tired of D-Hall, McDonalds, Moes, Chick fil A, or any other commonly visted restaurant, give these delicious options a try. You will not regret it!
