"Hey, I'm sorry, but is your dog put away? I'm not trying to cause any problems, it's just... Taylor is coming over and you know how she gets around dogs"

Imagine having to call every family member or friend up before visiting to make sure their dog is tied up or “put away” so your child wouldn’t be scared. They have never had a bad encounter with a dog, but dogs were their biggest fear.

This was my case until I was in 3rd grade. Around any dog, big or small, I would scream and burst out crying like my life was going to end. Never in my life would I own a dog. This was how I was until my parents brought my siblings and I to a random tiny house somewhere in Wisconsin. My sister, brother and I were all confused, but we entered the house with our parents anyway. Right when we walked in, a small, scruffy, bug-eyed dog came walking up to us. I obviously had no interest in her as I death gripped my dad’s arm and hid behind him. It wasn’t until my dad took my hand down to the little white mutt and I realized “hey, maybe she’s not too bad… but still not a fan.” It was then that my parents told us that we were taking her home, and her name is Dot.

If you ever owned a dog, you would know the feeling when you first get one. You never want to leave their side, you want to give them a million treats and play with them for hours on end. I never in my life thought I would feel that way about a dog, until Dot came into my life and changed it all around. Getting Dot was just like getting a new friend in my life. She had given me such happiness and such a love for all kinds of dogs.

If you are on the fence about getting a dog, it will never bring you sadness. You will always have a smile on your face. Here are nine reasons why having a dog will change your life:

1. They will always brighten your day

There is nothing a few kisses can't fix!

2. When you’re sad or sick, they’re there for support

Just looking at their face will make you feel a little better!

3. They will snuggle with you

Who doesn't like a good cuddle sesh?

4. They will play with you

Maybe make a little mess, but at least it was fun while it lasted!

5. If they do something sassy, they’ll look cute to make up for it

How could you yell at that face?

6. They will never abandon you

One reason why dogs > people

7. They will always protect you (or try to)

Even the smallest dogs will try to be a guard dog

8. You will always have a warm welcome when you get home

You're their favorite part of their day, so when you leave, they're a little lost until you return again.

9. They will love you as much as you love them

As long as you give them love, you will always get some in return.

This article is in memory of Dot. I hope doggy heaven is filled with lots of treats and walks for my little angel. (11/24/02-07/31/17)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
