Social media-- from Twitter to Instagram to Facebook, people love checking their daily feed. Social media definitely has its perks when it comes to keeping in touch with people you have not seen in a long time, or showing the world a picture of the sunset you saw this afternoon, but when it comes to relationships, social media is nothing but trouble. Here are 9 reasons why social media ruins relationships.
1. Why did THEY like your photo?
2. Why did YOU like their photo?!
We are all guilty of checking out who likes whose photo. Three fourths of the time, however, we end up angry, sad, self-conscious, or all of the above. Social media tempts us to look for something we do not want to see.
3. Ok, it's cool, snapchat but don't text me back.
Sometimes when you are out, it is hard to keep track of the texts going back and fourth between you and your significant other. But the second you post that snapchat before sending a text back...it's war.
4. Do you have to post that revealing picture?
Couples want what is theirs to be for their eyes only. When one of them posts revealing pictures of themselves for the entire media world to see, the other tends to feel unimportant.
5.You can tweet about your feelings but not tell me them?
Sometimes, you just really don't want to talk to your partner about how you feel, or why they are pissing you off. Oh, but you can certainly subtweet them.
6. Do you want to have dinner or are you too worried about checking up on your Insta-likes?
Plain and simple, social media is a distraction that is replacing the art of communication. Dinner dates used to be a one on one talk getting to know the other person, but now they are filled with awkward silences and both partners checking the media every ten seconds.
7. Snapchat with another girl after our fight? Yeah, we are OVER.
Realize that they may be just as upset as you are. But they are using social media as a deadly weapon to get your attention.
8. Oh good. I'm glad you still follow your ex.
Really, though. The past is the past.
9. This couple looks so happy why can't we be like them?!
It's so easy to compare yourself to others on social media. It's even easier to try to make others jealous by making your life seem awesome. That's one thing to keep in mind-- social media is deceiving. A couple may seem so happy on the media, but you have no idea what goes on behind the phone. Be happy with your relationship and do not compare it to anyone else's. Don't let social media be the factor that interferes with something great.
