9 Perks Of Being Home For The Holidays

Coming home for the holidays is great. Endless amounts of home cooked food, endless amounts of Netflix, endless amounts of puppy love...endless amounts of a lot of things. Your days will be filled with relaxation in pajamas with a side of egg nog. You'll finally be able to detox from the caffeine addiction first semester introduced you to and you'll be curled up like a blanket burrito in your own wonderful and comfortable bed without a single alarm set for the next day.

All joking aside, there are some serious perks to coming home for the holidays.

1. Seeing your family.

You and your siblings fight over the remote, the bathroom, the last Oreo...you guys just fight, okay? Your parents instill these 'rules' that you haven't had while in college (i.e. curfew? Like mom, let's not kid ourselves..) which can be seriously annoying. But in all reality, being home with the most important people in your life is truly an amazing blessing. Christmas cooking baking with mom, late night snacks with your sister and serious talks about boys with your brothers. It's great to be home.

2. Seeing your best friend.

You've been counting down the days and sending excited emojis back and forth for weeks but the time is finally here that you and your hometown bestie will finally be reunited for an entire month. This, my friends, is an amazing feeling. Cue insane adventures with your day 1. Getting to rock it with your best friend is one of the amazing reasons to be home.

3. No homework.

Bye, bye schoolwork and professors. You won't get me back into the firey pits of hell until January. Netflix, here I come.

4. Food.

No more ramen. Mama is in the kitchen and she is cooking a feast. Stuffing, lasagna, chicken parm, cookies, brownies, cakes...the list is endless.

5. Seeing old high school classmates.

Now this can be either a good thing or a bad thing. If it's a good thing, reunite with those high school classmates and grab a beer (tell your mom you'll be home at 11:30 sharp). But if it's a bad thing, at least you can walk around with your new college confidence and cute new clothes and of course your new red lipstick to let them know that they don't phase you.

6. Reminiscing.

The holiday break is the perfect time to drive by your old high school and hang out at the old spot with your crew. Either way, the nostalgia will be cued and you'll probably end up jamming in your car to an old mixed CD you made years ago.

7. It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Literally. Lights are up and people are in a good mood. Take advantage of this. Be thankful for the town that helped shape you into the person you are today.

8. Being able to do something you wouldn't have in high school.

College made you a boss. You're definitely more courageous than you were in high school. Do something wild (keep it PG-13, people) that you weren't able to in high school. Text that old cute guy from your high school Chemistry class or go to that New Years Party. Whatever it is, take advantage of the fact that you are different and flaunt it.

9. Relax.

There are no obligations and responsibilities. Just chill. You can stress and freak out when you get back to school in a few weeks. Because, let's be honest, none of us are checking Blackboard this break.

Above all else, have fun. Being home can be hard; it's easy to miss the college life and your college friends but just enjoy the time you have in your childhood home with the people you grew up with and I promise, you'll have a magical time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
