9 Movie Quotes To Help You Keep Moving Forward Through The Semester

As we enter into the 6th week of the semester, I, like many of you, have been overcome with exhaustion and mental drain. We have hit that point in the semester where it feels like we've hardly accomplished anything but we've been here forever and there are still a lot more weeks ahead of us. Here is a list of nine movie quotes to remember when you're trying your best to keep pushing forward:

1. "Our lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss." - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Remember that college is an opportunity that we are all lucky to have.

2. "Great men are not born great, they grow great." - The Godfather

I like to think of this quote when I'm in a class that I feel like the most inexperienced person in. No one starts out as experts in fields of study, we grow, we learn, and shape ourselves into the best we can be.

3. "I know what I have to do now, I've got to keep breathing because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?" - Cast Away

No matter how hard today was, the sun is still going to rise tomorrow. Who knows what the new day will bring? Just stay positive.

4. "Keep your chin up, someday there will be happiness again." - Robin Hood

When swimming in assignments and due dates, it's hard to see the Brightside. However, this semester will come to an end and we will be free to embrace summer happiness.

5. "No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world."Dead Poets Society

Never forget that your words and your opinions matter and they're worth being heard.

6. “There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there’s life, there is hope.” – The Theory of Everything

Everything about this quote is beautiful. Always believe in hope, yourself, and your ability to succeed.

7. "Do or Do not. There is no try." – The Empire Strikes Back

An oldie but such a goodie. Make your daily mantra the words of the legendary Jedi master.

8. “Don’t ever let somebody tell you you can’t do something, not even me. Alright? You dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want something, go get it. Period.” – The Pursuit of Happiness

*tears* If you have not seen this movie, find it and watch it. Always strive towards happiness and don't ever let someone keep you from reaching it.

9. “Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.” – Finding Nemo

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
