It's hard to scroll through social media on summer break without a bit of jealousy. Some days, it seems like my entire Instagram feed is traveling through Europe with a study abroad program! While I definitely envy the students that travel abroad, I'm also tired of seeing some of the same old cliches. Here are ten examples of the pictures you'll see posted this summer.
- The countdown - AKA subtly telling all your followers and friends that in just X amount of days you'll be jetting off to study abroad. Last chance for good-byes, parting gifts, romantic gestures, etc. Can you believe it!?
- The airport - Boarding a ten hour flight has never been so glamorous. Your travel ensemble is comfortable yet chic. Your passport has a shiny new cover. The line at security is taking forever... but it will all be worth it soon because adventure awaits you!
- The first meal - Bread, wine, and some tiny (yet fancy) dessert. It tastes like heaven on earth after stepping off the plane and looks like a work of art. If you don't snap a picture of every meal, did you even eat it?
- The first night out - World-class wine is suddenly affordable! And no one knows how to party like they do in Spain. Your new crew has nothing better to do (what classes?) than to join in, especially after a big
soccerfutbol win! - Selfies with fellow travelers - AKA your soulmates. How in the world did you live without these wonderful people? How will you live WITHOUT them, and who else will understand the amazing
experiences you've shared? - Throwing what you know - Every good Greek knows that they represent their letters, no matter what country. Make your chapter proud of their jet set members with a picture for your rush slideshow!
- The amazing monuments and European icons - What you've only seen before in movies or textbooks is now in front of you and is 1,000 times more amazing and picture-perfect! From posing by the Roman Colosseum to selfies with Mona Lisa herself, there's a million and one photo ops.
- Actually studying - HA. But really, there is a reason you're abroad... and it's probably not pretending to be Lizzie McGuire or hanging out with the foreign love of your life (Sorry, Paulo). Thank goodness for cool professors who lead groups out to tour a museum or local vineyard. Now THAT'S what dreams are made of.
- The endless #TBTs - After the saddest flight ever back to the states and a happy reunion with family/what friends you have left, you're stuck with thousands of pictures and a heavy sense of nostalgia. The perfect remedy? Throwback Thursday, every Thursday. Until you go back, that is!
