9 Horror Movies To Watch In October

It's that time of year, my favorite time of year actually. No, it's not Christmas, it's fall! Fall happens to be my favorite time of year. Maybe because my birthday is in November or because I love Halloween or sweatshirt weather but either way I love fall. It's also horror movie season so here I am with some movies to watch with your friends. I could add so many more than nine but here are some recent ones.

1. "The Babadook" (2014)

This movie is available for you to scare yourself on Netflix. I highly recommend it. It's full of scares and creepiness that comes with October. It is about a mother and her son who struggle since the death of her husband on the night her child was born. It's very well made. SPOILER ALERT! Stop now before you are spoiled...the dog dies. Just a warning.

2. "Last Shift" (2015)

This one is also on Netflix and will scare the sh*t out of you. It's about a rookie cop who has to take the last shift watching an old police station because they moved. I watched it on my laptop with headphones and I had to slam my laptop down and take a breather. There are all sorts of twists and turns with this movie and it keeps you guessing.

3. "V/H/S" (2012)

I watched this movie with friends and it scared me. It's about a group of friends who find a stash of VHS tapes and they have disturbing footage on them. I love how it was structured with like mini horror movies inside a horror movie. It was so unique and I liked this movie. It is a trilogy and I like the format so much that I might be willing to view the other two. This one is also on Netflix

4. "Sinister" (2012)

I watched this with my friend Cierra and I'm sure that she paid more attention to me being terrified than the movie. This movie is pure terror. It is about a writer who finds tapes of families being murdered and goes to investigate. The ending will is a surprise and I enjoyed this movie when I was not hiding under the blanket.

5. "The Conjuring" and "The Conjuring 2" (2013 & 2016)

I highly recommend this movie. It documents a case that was made by paranormal investigators the Warrens. This movie does something that most horror movies do not do. They make you care about the individuals in the movie. They do not make stupid decisions that are cliches in horror movies. The second one is just as good as the first which is rare for movies, not just horror movies.

6. "American Psycho" (2000)

This movie has been recommended across the board. It has the dashing Christian Bale as the main star which may confuse some Batman fans. It has dark humor and listed on many "Best Horror Movies" lists. It is about a business man who has a second life as a murderer. Christian Bales performance in this movie is creepy and you will get scared.

7. "The Blair Witch Project"( 1999)

Do I really to explain this one? I can remember this being one of the first horror movies I watched and it scared the life out of me. It is about a group of students filming a documentary about the "Blair Witch" and they go missing and their footage is found. A sequel came out this year so I would recommend seeing this one first.

8. "Lights Out" (2016)

I haven't personally seen this movie but when I asked people for their scariest horror movies, this one was the one constant. I heard so many things about this film. I have heard from my friend who does not scare easily and watches horror movies for fun that this is the scariest movie she's ever seen.

9. "Jeepers Creepers" 1 & 2 (2001 & 2003)

Okay these movies kept me up all night when I was younger. They scared me so much. The first one had some genuine scares but the second one was more gory in my opinion. They are both terrifying. I had to wait years until I was able to watch them again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
